Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Without a doubt this has been a complete failure at 1718 not that those in charge would openly admit it. We can't keep up on the floor, everyone has stopped caring, and customer complaints are coming in regularly (not that Lowe's cares about those people anymore). After a nightmare inventory the bright idea to fix everything was to keep people until midnight to zone (not that anyone is actually doing so) I'm trying to figure out how we don't have the payroll for coverage during the day but this genius thinks we can afford to pay people to wander around an empty store for two hours.

Lowes is at it again! Cutting the Human Resources Managers from the store!

PSA here been with the company only a few years. Haven't been a PSA for even a year yet. Word on the wire is from a few people that are connected with corporate management seems to believe their will be a new roll-out of layoffs coming in starting 4th qtr. Their prediction is that the installed sales teams will be consolidated to call centers and the entirety of the PSA departments in store positions will be eliminated. Not sure if this is 100% true yet too early to tell, but this may come swift and without warning. Not sure if we will be given the luxury of 1-year to find other work. Also, with regards to previous comments and concerns here. My store and surrounding stores are feeling the same pressure. Even though reports were that we would see a major hiring spree we have entire departments only handled by one associate for a majority of the day. Or one associate for multiple departments. The gears of these stores seem to be grinding to a halt. Back rooms in clutter and disarray. etc. etc.

A similar program was tried several years ago, the first thing I remember happening is the steady decline in dept appearance and the inventory issues on the sales floor ie merch on the shelves not being filled as regularly, on hand qtys be it good or bad not caught and corrected in a timely manner. No dept head equals minimum productivity,which equals dirt,dust, and lower standards.Reminds me of Kmart...Based on what I'm hearing only the names have changed. The former results, however are already rearing their ugly heads.Going into Spring season will show what the new (baby) managers will be able to do.These guys/gals were working their butts off in one dept, now they have three or four to contend with.

2 asm over 50 and 5 dm over 40

I would like to know how many of the ASM's that were let go are over the age of 50? I know of one stores that had 2 ASM's over the age of 50 with 4 yr degrees and 20 plus years experience were let go; all while having 2 other ASM's under the age of 30 keep their employment. These 2 ASM's were told they do not fit the skill set or have the criteria to fit into the new management restructure.

This seems a little shady. Start your count here with number #3 . I know this number will grow quickly......

-down to 4 ASM from 5, 1 Sales, 1 Ops, 2 Zone

-19 DMs now, 2 safe, LP and PSA, all others apply for 7 SSM positions and raise, 1 Overnight, 1 Backend, 1 Front end, 5 Floor

-other 10 are CSA5 at same rate for 1 year then gone

-OPE Specialist gone.

-HR safe for now

-All goes into effect 1/28

Lowes issues are upper management. Home Depot is cheaper with much better service. Epilepsy drive a little farther to save a dollar. When you buy a door and it's installed like a high schooler did you tend to never buy again. These are very fixable and only upper Man. can. But like every industry they got promoted because they were "liked" not good! He little guy always gets the shaft. Only the liked employees can survive. So you better start going above average and become best friends with the bosses!

i worked in retail about since i was 18, I made it to the top ASM, DM,PRO, and I have taken every dept I worked in into success, that's about 6 dept's , i hate to brag... Lowe's closes about 30 store's pe year on average, it really s---s because there is a few good (wo)men that are good workers show up to work, sweat and bust their tail like me,(no im not in management). Also we have the DM'S THAT DON'T DO NOTHING, unless their ASM is there, than you and every other associate let your ASM know that the DM is worthless hangs out at the desk all day checking connections, or just BS with all day, we have DM'S that have sticks up their A's and don't teach the new worker sht, I hate to see people loose their jobs but some of these workers are dead weight. Starting with SM never talks to anyone like we owe him something, the admin girl again like she is the best, queen and we owe her something, it's just a position don't let it get to you. @ LOWES' we have lot's of employee's in management that don't care, they don't practice what they preach, the lowest paid workers like me do a better job at running a department, providing customer service, world class service, teaching training and coaching my associates instead of writing them up. Let's live our value's that's why Lowe's keeps cutting jobs because some of you don't provide the skills required by the company, and it all starts with corpoorate.

Our store in South Carolina will be hit tomorrow with bad news. It's a shame that people who have given Lowe's 10+ years of their service to get stabbed in the back by these money s---ers.

It's time for all good associates to walk out at the same time! How will they run this company with no employees?

How does Lowe's get away with this?They already work their people short handed and too much work load that many people are getting permanent disabilities over it leave it to the company to worry about the almighty dollar rather than taking care of their emplyees they have done Nothing but taken the moral away from good emplyees once again.

Dose any body know anything about specialist been affected as well?

I was told those ASMs being let go had already received a letter in the mail. Zone 3 is what seems affected. As for DMs, we won't know until Tuesday, Jan 17.

Can you guys post what area of the country you're in? I'm a DMIS and have been hearing a lot about a restructure in my market. I'm curious if you those of you hearing the same thing are nearby.

I am a department manager and my asm told me this next Tuesday that our store is only keeping 5 DM's. he said there was some kind of vote amongst upper management to pick the top 5. The 5 would then be zone managers or service managers with more responsibility. I also heard my store may cut an asm. No word on pay increases or decreases. I'll find out more on Tuesday.

I'm a department manager who has only been with Lowe's for a little over a year. I'm highly driven, both with goals and tasks but I'm totally worried about seniority. I consider myself a business woman and over the past year I've learned that there is a lot of money to be saved at Lowes and I understand the reason behind it. Being driven and motivated, I look around at my peers and even ASMs that are only there for their shift and show really no real vested interest. I get it. I guess we just have to wait and see. If they get it right, and put the right people in position it could be extremely prosperous but accountability has to change too. There really isn't any, which is another reason why this IS happening and NEEDS to happen. Anyway, I'd love to hear your comments both good and bad. I wish everyone involved in the upcoming changes "Good Luck"! The waiting isn't good for any of us!

anyone hear what if anything is happing with the night stocking department managers with this new format?

I am in the Chicago Market and it was a tuff pill to swallow when the selection process went down. Different managers changed zones and some stores got all mixed up. It is rolling pretty smoothly now. We are mostly in charge of training our associates. I hear it might get rolled out to the rest of the stores this year, but we sorely miss our HR manager.

Are the service manager positions part time?

just announced at the Tuesday meeting in Kentucky..

Plain and simple , more part time , less benefit, Higher price + more money for the few and the hell with the rest but will make it sound good and stupid as always will believe and clap.

People in the northern market are just sitting here waiting for the verdict. We have 11 department managers

What about asms??

I'm not sure what's really going on but here in the Chicago market in October 2015, all sales floor department manager positions were eliminated. 5 service manager positions were created: 3 sales floor, 1 front end 1 back end. Each department manager, 12 I believe had to reapply for the new service manager positions if they wanted to possibly stay with the company. Of course only 5 were selected. More part time CSAs were suppose to be hired but we have yet to see this. It has be quite an adjustment for the store

Today all of our store managers and hr managers are in a meeting, pretty sure its about all of this. We shall see who has jobs after this.

Its going down today! All store managers, market directors, hr's all in a mandatory 10 hour off site meeting. Expect an announcement within 2 days!
