@Anonymous - they can't let go of 30% of the workforce without announcing it first, it is illegal. The federal WARN Act requires employers with at least 100 employees to give 60 days' notice before a plant closing or mass layoff.

I think OXY deserves some credit for finding ways to keep most of their employees up till now when other companies like Conoco and Chevron have embarked on massive layoffs.

Don't know about the 5 and 20, but I've heard the Friday thing as well. Also heard 30%, but I'm not sure I believe that. It would be pretty far out of character for the way the company has done layoffs in the past.

It would be nice if the bigot comment had some backup to it. I've worked at Oxy for several years, and can't say that I've seen anything of that nature, at a company level at least. There are a few boneheads around, but I think that would be true anywhere. If you're not interested in participating in a real conversation, please take your venom and spew it somewhere else.

I call trolling. Literally was just looking at layoffs for another oil company and two of the comments here were posted word for word. I.e. The 5 year and 20. As well as them happening on Friday comment.

I heard folks with less than 5 yrs exp and more than 20 yrs will be evaluated regardless of their performance. Also folks from non performing/ shutting down assets, Managers and the rest should be fine.

I actually heard this too today from a coworker. He specifically said starting this Friday. I usually dont pay attention to the rumors but the guy who said it would not spread it if he didnt think there was some truth to it. Maybe he is referring to a specific department
