Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

A Glimmer of Hope

Here's a positive observation in the sea of crap that is this forum: Did anyone else notice that Martin mentioned employee retention in his earnings statement yesterday? This coupled with the fact that HR is being sent out to various locations around the globe on morale-boosting missions is positive news.

The Baker ELT has finally accepted the possibility that the merger may not happen, and are worried about having a functional company sans Halliburton. For all you luddites reading this - and judging by the butchering of the English language, and general hatred for all things management; most of you fall into this category - ELT = Executive Leadership Team, and 'sans' is French for 'without', but has made its way into the English language.

This is a good indication that any further layoffs will be considered much more carefully before actions are taken. So relax a little this weekend knowing that the winds appear to be shifting.

Who gives a flying flip! Let's get this take over completed. Send Crackerhead and his VP's down the road.

Reread what Craighead actually said - "In closing, I want to emphasize that our people and their capabilities are critical to our success, and I am very pleased with our retention rates and strong talent base in spite of the uncertainty".

As someone already said, the only reason retention rate is high is because there are no jobs out there unless you want to leave the industry altogether - and note that he is talking in past tense with no comment on what is going to happen over the next few weeks. Sending out HR is more likely to be down to co-coordinating layoffs.

The management glimmer expressed is used to pacify its masses and subdue adversary to gain an advantage. Therefore, Employees are best advised to strike first to maintain their advantage before stricken.

I'm not sure what the vetting process for choosing a new Manager involves. May I offer that merely holding a PhD and having experience with Toastmaster's probably falls short.

Let's be realist at some point sooner or later you all will have to leave your jobs. There is a comment saying ''that people with high skill sets into groups to don't face reduction''. We have to be aware that we never know what will really happen tomorrow, we are planning our day as driving the kids to school, going to work, having meetings, etc. But once you are out from your house there is not 100 % chance that you will come back, you can have an accident, you can be kill, you can have a heart attack etc. let's look at the world around us and how everything is changing let's be realist and THINK and THINK again, that all this is temporary, YOUR JOB IS TEMPORARY FOR ALL OF YOU, very possible you will not have this job forever, nothing is safe you can be in a VP group and you are not 100 % safe, you can't be sure that next week you will not be in a wheelchair or just to find that you was diagnosed with cancer, so nobody is 100 % safe. Each of us have a DESTINY, for those that still are in BHI the reason that you still are there is that YOU CAN BRING HIGH VALUE FOR THE COMPANY. For those that were lay off, BHI is not the end of the world out there are millions of opportunities, please open your eyes. If you was lay off this mean your DESTINY is to grow out of Baker in another organization that can help you to master your natural born abilities and talents. Each of you was born with a scope on this earth is important to find this scope, what drive you, what make you really happy. Is very important to understand the GOD'S WILL

( Unfortunately, 8 years ago I lost a very good friend, he worked as a manager for a oil company he killed himself in 2008 because he lost his job. Even if he was a manager with years of experience he never found the scope of his life. I am very sure none of us was born to end up with a rope around the neck.)

I will recommend to all oil companies or any another company that lay-off people to initiate a program to make people understand that a job is not the end of the world. As a manager YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW what your direct report has at home, maybe yesterday just got divorced, maybe just he/she found out that have a incurable diseases, maybe has a bad wife/husband at home that keep her/him in stress, maybe his kid just had an accident, so many things can go wrong. As a worldwide company try to FOCUS PEOPLE TO CONTINUE GROW AND PROGRESS , show them another option than Baker or Schlumbenger or whatever company. All please understand behind a smile you never know what is hiding the smiling man/lady who just signed the papers and after that has closed the door behind maybe next step can be jumping off from the bridge because he/she thinks has nowhere to go.

Hope everyone understood my message.

Gracias,

El luchador

Workforce retention is moving core people with high skill sets into groups that will not face headcount reductions.

High retention rate because nowadays people have nowhere to go.....

I would leave the first day the oil price back.

FK baker management, it is not the original Baker or Hughes or Inteq or Atlas anymore, easy way say, it is not a traditional US company any more

And rumor is all band level and higher employees are protected from layoffs due to merger agreement with HAL.

The number of employees on the payroll is proportional to revenue in BHI, HAL, SLB or other capitalist companies. Less money coming in, less ability to pay people; simple as that.

Morale boosting? I'll believe if I see it. What I read was workforce will continue to be managed commensurate with the work our customers give us in 2016. I read stories online of another 20-30 % reduction in our customers 2016 bUdget compared to their 2015 budgets. Less customer work = fewer BHI employees.
