Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Selection day everyone will be home

Selection day will be no work. You will be instructed to take your computer home. You will either be called or emailed if you are fired. Chevron will mail your remaining office items to your home. A US box will also be mailed to return computer. You will not be allowed back into any Chevron premises. This is for security reasons and fear of work place violence.

Not many know what they are talking about here. Maybe ask the AMBU employees how it all really happens. AND for all the "badasses" that aren't going to turn their stuff in, they will just deduct it from your severance pay.

I'm sorry, what uniforms?

I suppose they want the uniforms back for "security" sake. The company wants to avoid any possible donation of uniforms to the homeless and indigent bums that live under our bridges. God forbid they don't want any of these types from impersonating the average Chevron Dick Head.

I was laid off this fall. They want uniforms back.

gty offers a lot of good advice in the thread below. In my career I have been laid off and also had to fire others. Believe me when I say you will not have time to go through your things the day you get let go. Follow gty's advice and plan for the worst. I will say, however, that even though gpl has good insight, I don't believe CVX will go after your uniforms. In my experience firing a contractor three years ago, we just wanted the laptop and the Blackberry. Good luck to all. Believe me, there is life out there beyond CVX.

I guess I'm glad my lay off last year was a lot more 'civilized'

Which BU is this and how many are you taking about?

I thought last year's 6k or so were manageable.

Based on recent history, it takes longer than a single day to notify all those laid off. They gave us a 1-week window during the last ROM. I was informed on a Thursday, several found out days before me. They did ask me to close out my expense reports asap, then turn in my computer, blue badge, and cell phone. Never went back to the office, as I was smart enough to pre-pack my stuff weeks ahead and didn't have any personal items there.

Any idiot that thinks they can keep the laptop, won't get their severance check. I hope the computer is worth more, in that case!

OP did hit the homerun. It will be a Friday. For the computers, I believe you take them home. As you need to turn in company phone as well. If you have company issued clothing (uniforms) this also holds true. If you don't turn in company assets you do not receive a severence. Now this is particularly interesting. The UPS driver and myself are avid fly fishermen. We talk regularly. Last week he said "WTF is going on at this place? You have ordered several hundred prepaid shipping boxes". Hmmmmm, Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

If it goes down like that, the odds they ever see my laptop again are pretty much 0%.

they will keep your laptops at the office, you can read your email from your home PC. There is already a process setup to read your email by OWA, Outlook web access. The OP is right, they will call a day out office because they are not prepared to handle the volume of people that will be terminated. They hate to be out of control in any situation. This is one of those times when they cannot control every little detail. If they have just one incident out of several thousand people, the media will eat it up and the episode will be bigger than the Macondo oil spill..... OP hit it out of the park with this one!

I took the time to copy my important emails from MS Outlook to a thumb drive. Just highlight the email, right click and choose "copy". Go to the thumb drive folder and select "paste". To read or later print the email in the same format, you will have to have MS Outlook or compatible application on your home computer. Another tip - take advantage of the Microsoft Home Use Program (HUP) while still an active employee with a Chevron email address. You can purchase the latest full version MS productivity software for $10 (digital download) plus another $19 for delivery on DVD media to your home address. It's a great bargain. If you don't have the company code and web address to make your purchase, call your department's IT group. A quick intranet company search may also turn up the info you need.

Everyone should start slowly taking personal affects home. Don't keep anything of value at your workstation. Backup any files you think are important to a thumb drive. Delete all useless and personal files from the C and P drives. Make a broad contact list with the email, work phone and mobile numbers to anyone you think could help you later. Start brushing up your resume and GO-400. Collect all your past years of signed final PMP printouts or ePMP and take them home today. Keep only the essential things at work that can be brought home with you in one grab bag. If you have a company mobile, backup everything and know how to wipe it clean on a moments notice. Go into the HR website from work and save PDF copies of all your paycheck statements for the last 3 years or more. It won't be available to you after the company cuts you off. You can access your benefits side of the HR website from home, but not the paycheck side of that site. Prepare a "To-Do" list to not forget anything.

They are creating a fire wall. GIL cards will have access to email for a short period of time. Company cell phone to. I believe 2 days.

If Chevron got involved in you taking a shit, it would take you 4 hours and then the toilet paper would be missing. They make it hard then never follow through. F'd up!

they will not notify you by email because the folks that are let go will lose remote access to the company resources as soon as the decisions are made. The poor managers will have to "cowboy up" and call the staff that is losing their jobs. That will be too funny..... my manager is a coward and hates confrontation!

Sounds pretty bad. Who know if they will handle notifications that way. What about field positions where everyone doesn't have a laptop to take home? I would prefer to see that everyone has to provide their supervisor with a home phone number and personal email address. Notifications can be handled that way without the need to pay shipping charges to have a company laptop mailed back. I don't know why Chevron has to make a simple task sooooo difficult. For crying out loud!!!

With 70 percent reduction in forever the criteria will be tough. And yes I would expect with these kind of numbers, we all stay home on judgment day. I have been changing my diet to get ready. Ramon noodles ain't half bad lol.

I have heard if you have not had a 2+ or a 1 (preferably more then one) within the last three years you will be gone. Only exception is business critical position. We will see in April.
