Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

I really miss the old days - BrewFest, massive X-mas parties, beer-thirty and many conferences. What are the odds we get them back?

I really miss taking a week off to attend the BrewFest (oops, wasn't it uplinq once QCT took it over), the HUGE xmas parties that they threw, the carnival, the del mar parties and all the conferences I used to get sent off to (to get drunk and sleep in). What happened, the gravy train is over, what do we need to do to get this ship pointed in the right direction? Used to be such a fun/cool place to work, can we start picketing or something?

60 million per year to the CEO and I am sure the rest of the top management make that much per year. That is heck of an expense (nearly 1000 employees).

If you have never had electricity at home oddly it is possible to get an EE degree but not have the aptitude to make toast. Funny how huge wealthy corporations trying to cut corners eventually end up much like the people they hired.

I don't think our hiring practices involved operating a toaster oven. I think it was just a blood pressure and pulse check...

I miss the toaster ovens. When they started hiring people so incompetent that couldn't work a toaster oven without setting off a fire alarm that maybe, just maybe it should have occurred to them that they were going on the wrong direction in hiring?

I actually disagree (at least a bit), I think it wasn't the parties and extra-curricular stuff that put the company where it is today but rather the massive amount of mis-management. Take the AMSS code base for example, what a fustercluck , imagine the amount of hours/year/decades build that monstrosity, yet alone all the peripheral crud related to it. All the useless layers of management, purely to 'gather status' - useless sr staff, directors, sr directors, all up the food chain, displaying worthless spreadsheets, etc... Imagine the amount of $ to pay and employ those monkeys...

Urgent career advice. I work in EDA with great work-life balance. Should I move to QCOM for learning?

I am in Bangalore, QCOM share is touching ground.

Exactly. A lot of that crap put things where they are today. Now it's flipped too far the other direction.
