Thread regarding Follett layoffs

CEO Ray Griffith's response to 'Follett Voice'

An official 'release' in response to the voice results emerged today. Apparently said results were tabulated in late December and Griffith has been meeting with an 'executive committee' to interpret the results. The tl;dr is;

-Associates want direction, purpose and distinction as to why Follett is going to survive.

-Associates want to know how they contribute

-Associates do not see innovation as prized. Apparently encouragement support and awards will change this perception/encourage innovation

-Associates do not feel management listens and must create a new environment. One can expect new metrics of success to be laid out soon.

-Associates want to grow.

Griffith cited 'the likelihood of difficult work ahead' and that '86% of team members [polled were] interested in seeing Follett succeed.'

where to start?

-Two full days were taken to meet with key leaders to define purpose as a company.

-at the end of February a 'leadership summit' will be convened with 200 'Follett leaders.'

I'm hoping to avoid snark at this point in starting a thread. I do not, however, feel that the results mentioned should come as a surprise.

Where is Ray? We never see him. Its like he hides out and just sends directives to his lieutenants. What a mess we've become dear Follet .

Only 3% of the leadership team would like to Follett succeed. The remaining 97% are looking for new places to cut, so they achieve their bonuses.

"86% of team members [polled were] interested in seeing Follett succeed."

Unfortunately, only 6% of team members believe it can actually happen. In this case, semantics matter.

If a consultant was used in compiling the results the consultant will issue a report. That report will align with the goals of the VP who hired the consultant. If those goals are to lower bottom line costs, people will lose their jobs, or jobs will be re-catagorized and existing employees will be run out so new employees can be hired at the lower wage. If the VP wants better communication, better employee morale and better pay, he/she will be fired.

Needs to be respect & encouragement for all managers in the field, asm's & cm's, who give support & hard work to make the store manager successful. We pull our fair share, if not more, & get no respect. Asm's are especially ignored but expected to do work of both the sm & cm, work the same hours, no bonus, no recognizition of all the work they contribute.

Lets be honest. MLS and DG did one thing very well and that was to have regular town halls for keeping employees up to date on initiatives. The previous leadership provided a business update at the Christmas party in OB. These should have been broadcast to the field as well but IT couldn't deliver. This leadership has done a good job of communicating however it is the contents of the communication. Leadership has had no vision for strategy and still doesn't. Tired of the old initiatives of DR, dual enrollment, included etc. These programs will never have critical mass to make a difference for Follett. Lock in students to one buying source is the complete opposite way the market is going.

Nothing will come of the voice survey. It's lipstick on a pig. Too little too late

Provide more for your manangers. That's why they are leaving. Only people within their field are aware of the needs of their store, not people that haven't touch or seen a store, and the lack of support. Follett doesn't give back their employees. It's the opposite they milk their empolyees.

This is all find and dandy but will said leaders participating in these important meetings actually share the vision/direction of the company with us peons? I doubt it. Also will said leadership that has ignored us for years suddenly listen and treat us as human beings. Im not willing to drink the kool aid yet.
