Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Look at the faces

Leaders working in Westchester home office are running around like there's a fire somewhere. My boss always looks like she got maybe two hours of sleep. Something's up and it can't be good. My team and I don't get as much done under these conditions because we're all trying to see if any truth to the rumors or find new jobs to get out of this yuck. But it's Friday and that's always a relief. Thankful to have a job but i think this place is really going down fast. Anybody else feel the same?

I rarely chuckle when reading this forum. I'm glad I had finished my coffee.

"When Bernie is elected President this crap will stop!"

appreciate having a job. Really? While doing the work of 2 or 3 people so the Folletts get richer? Do you have to kiss DG's ring every morning and tell him how swell he is? When Bernie is elected President this crap will stop!

dear "look at the faces" - your boss appears she only has few hours sleep could be true. bring in a coffee or favorite beverage and say thanks, it will make her day just knowing her team recognizes and appreciates her efforts. while someone may laugh at this, until you have been in her shoes and know behind the scenes she may be helping more than we know. I am an early riser into work to get it done while quiet, my husband helps in the morning and I have evening, while at work I do my best and appreciate having a job.

Like UPS acquired Mail Boxes Etc. and FedEx acquired Kinko's there is a grand strategy behind these decisions. Until then it will appear to be business as usual.

They wouldn't have spent the big bucks on more branded merchandise store programs and a e-commerce package http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/follett-acquires-advanced-online-300169707.html if they knew they had buyer. They have been looking for a buyer for ages not even a nibble.

Range of products? Amazon is clear, they are building warehouses through out the country. Delivery will be one day to most major universities. Again, Amazon doesn't want Follett.

Amazon doesn't want Follett for it's textbooks sales, they're smart enough to know that's a dying business. Think bigger, think of their range of products compared to the crap Follett offers.

Amazon is not buying Follett. Wake up people, why would Amazon want to pay 15% commission on every sale to the school. This is a low margin marketplace now and it doesn't afford Follett (or B&N) a normal return on investment to invest in systems and people. Just look at the facts, no investment in people, really just the opposite as they cut benefits, pay and bonus. Look at our systems, they stink. They will continue to take market share in the textbook market using their proven approach. It is estimated that Amazon has 25 % of the textbook market. The only thing that keeps Follett and B&N in the game if financial aid lock in. The government will find a better method for financial aid and the last competitive advantage will be gone.

Yes, Amazon is considering purchasing brick and mortar aka bookstores.

If you have the inside scoop there are many Follett employees who will be part of the new Follett coming soon. Many at the top to be replaced; those spending millions with no ROI to be shown the door.

When Amazon buys Follett, Westchester and all it's executives is redundant baggage. The family writes off the $50 million they dropped into the 70's style white elephant (no synergy really happened did it?) and the pockets a huge profit and get out from under a dying business. Pay attention to the quality people that have left in the past 6 months. They know what's coming!

I'm going home in exactly 82 minutes. To a nice bottle of wine and my awesome husband. There's nothing more I can do here.
