Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

All the Next Gens have been laid off

I work with a Next Gen and I can confirm that ALL of them have been laid off as of this morning. Wake up people! NO ONE is safe at NOV. I have started looking for a new job and I suggest you do the same.

I've seen good and bad Next Gen's over the years. I know some very good people who interviewed for Next Gen positions but withdrew once they realized what the salary would be.

I've worked with great next gen's and poor ones. I've worked with some who completed great projects and others who wasted time re-doing a recycled project someone else had previously done. Their success and engagement was often dependent on their manager and how willing/prepared they were to assign tasks.

Some next gen's have moved on and we are better for it but I know a few making meaningful contributions to the company. I think it is a good program but I do wish more existing employees were given the same opportunities to try different roles in the company

I think there are a lot of trolls on here. I worked with probably about 6 Next Gens. They are nothing special, but not bad either, and I haven't seen a single next gen become anybodies manager either, except for Mike Pridgeon, but everyone hates that d-bag.

I'm not a Next Gen though hired post-college graduation. I've never observed any preferential treatment given to Next Gens and I work with one. I sometimes forget she's a Next Gen. Learners ask a ton of questions and will ask more when the need arises.

Examine management. The distribution of ages is pretty good. The age gap is a result of the O&G industry's inability to treat 10 years if experience fairly if they didn't yes man their way to management. Corporate culture is to blame here and no influx of young blood fixes that

Everyone in this industry is a little biter right now, I get it, and you have a right to be. But maybe, just maybe, you should point that angst in a more productive direction than bashing others, who just lost their jobs, in the comments section of "thelayoff.com".

Some people are seriously sour on here. The Next Gen program was designed to bring young college educated people into the industry, which is something the O&G industry has struggled with for years. There is a huge age gap between employees because for years companies just hired people with years of experience under their belts, which made sense. Then the industry realized that all those people with years of experience would all be retiring and there will be nobody with working knowledge in O&G. Thus the influx of young, inexperienced people. But ill tell you what, those people are smart, willing and able to learn. Rather than bashing them for asking questions and wanting to learn, maybe you should help train them.

I think the nextgens are still russ's little baby so they got 3 months notice. Can anyone else think of nextgens that have gotten special treatment despite being average or even terrible at their jobs. You can't tout your baby as a success if you fire the products.

The facts are that a nextgen leaves their program little better trained than being fresh out but they make it enticing to hire them by subsidizing their wage to their new manager. The whole program is a joke that can't be laughed at.

Yeah I bet it sucks when a Next Gen ends up being your manager. Anyone straight out of college is going to ask a ton of questions. Hopefully you remember when you started in the workforce and how clueless you were at the time.

Next gens are deadweight, worthless. We are flooded with them and have no clue on what's going on. They're always asking 1000s of questions and literally are given recycled projects, they're usually less knowledgable than the typical laborer but paid at Higher rate. It's a dumb idea to keep them and throw away so much money with them being so incompetent.

Next gens were an attempt by management to bring on people with no experience at low wages to replace talented individuals who worked themselves up through the ranks but we're making more. An example of our management trying to pad the payroll with low cost boot lickers.

Well, they get to finish out there rotation, which is basically 4 months notice. Not many get that luxury. And why would Next Gens be safe, seems like they would be one of the first to go.
