I would like to get my foot in the door considering recent layoffs of professionals. Are there opportunities for us new college interns?

@Gone Guy great name and great post! I completely agree! It will never be the same again! I can't believe people thought this shit was going to be around forever.
People sat (and some still do - biting their finger nails or playing the worry-free card) on their ass for years without making professional progress; i.e., staying with the same company, same position, etc.
The same former O ain't this the real shit, huh? ha! I don't doubt they will take the job back in heart beat when companies start "re-hiring!" To go back and sit on their ass as long as possible again... ha ha
Rather than let interns have a chance...no way
Really interesting the ones left at Pampa....makes one wonder.
Try bio medical, people always get sick.
It's going to be a slow two year process to regain proper supply/demand balance. When companies start rehiring, I think they'll initially go for former O&G employees with 3-5 yrs experience. They still command relatively low salaries yet have some time under their belt. Recent grads with no experience will find it tough. Sorry.
Yeah, if you work in a different industry.
Try wind or solar energy. Follow the money, that is the future. Oil is declining and we'll never see $100/barrel again.
