Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Shady Business at Sears

I went to work for my Sears shift, tried to punch in, and got an "unauthorized punch" notice. Turned out all my hours for the week had ben cancelled. The manager said, "Oh, didn't anyone call you? No employees have hours this week. They decided to cut them. But don't worry! You'll have hours next week!"

I just checked the new schedule. I have no hours. And I emailed the store manager twice: no response.

So, THIS is how Sears conducts "lay-offs?" Can't say I'm surprised, the store is dead; yet, they tell at morning meetings that "we're #1in the country," which even an idiot would have had to interpret to mean that we're the only Sears store left open (a slight exaggeration).

SEARS motto: To Serve, Delight, and Engage Our Members While They Shop Their Way (and The Employees Get Thrown Out With the Trash).

I guess the nightmare is over.

My sears store is the same. We were told our hours would not be cut. That same day our hours were cut twice. They blamed it all on corporate.

No ops managers... LMAO.....they need to demote the worthless district manager and iPad manager, and stick them into mpu. Put a tick tock on them and have them running around looking for inventory they don't have. What a joke...promote an idiot to oversee hardlines in the district because the dm is overworked and fire an ops manager. Real smart integrated retail. How are the Internet sales going?

Just goes to show you how desperate they are. How do they suppose they will operate a store with no one working? It would be great for every employee to quit or take the day off on the same day and force these morons into bankruptcy. It is coming sorry to say/

This is nothing new managers and their district managers protect their jobs with new titles and stupid conference calls on a daily basis. What a waste of time. They are totally overpaid and unproductive and should be fired. I was part of that management nonsense and left. They have always found ways for employees to work if they like you by coding hours as training. If they don't like an employee, regardless of how productive they are they schedule the person 1 hour per week. Believe me, upper management changed my schedule because they did not like a person. Everyone needs to call HR and complain. Also they do plenty of stupid things, say stupid things contrary to labor laws. Hold them accountable and threaten the company with legal action.

Samething happened to me. I gave them a choice either they let me work for three hours or they can send me home and pay me for three hours. The manager denied my request that first. I told them that's fine I will call and make a case. I actually picked up the phone and called right then. They let me work my three hours.

Not really store level managers fault for the cuts or scheduling. All of the cuts come from corporate and trickles down to the store level. The company is trying to save as much money as they can any way they can. The vendors will soon stop shipping merchandise because they are afraid of not getting paid, losses will continue (675 million last quarter), stores will continue to fall apart, customer service on appliances and other goods will continue to be voted the worst in retail, women will continue to vote Goodwill clothes shopping as better than shopping at Sears or Kmart, the computer system will continue to run on 1990's technology, customers will continue to be frustrated by the long lines (One cashier due to cuts and slow computers) and sub-par goods, SYW and credit card sign-ups will continue to make customers as well as employees mad, stores will continue to close, online orders will continue to fall, Sears and Kmart will continue to be voted as one of the worst businesses to work for, everyone will continue to NOT get raises but expect to work harder (not more--we have to cut hours), Sears/Kmart prices will still be, sometimes, 30-50% higher than Amazon, Wal-mart, Target, employees will continue to leave the company for greener pastures (those that can), Diehard, Craftsman and Kenmore brands value will continue to decline, the real estate that is left will continue to decline in value as the market is flooded and buildings fall into disrepair and all of this while we serve, delight and engage our members while they shop their way (registered trade mark). Have a good day!

You have my sympathy. Lousy way to find out you have been laid off. Pretty typical of how Sears/K-mart operates. This company will ultimately file BK. Their Internet sales division will not save this company. I am surprised that shareholders have not court challenged the REIT spin-off? Sounds like they simply diverted assets (at below mkt values) away from possible future claimants? Just an opinion I have. Maybe right or wrong?

Kmart has been doing that also....associates show 1 day scheduled, ask manager was told no hours, all associates have been cut hours...which is a big fat lie..... SOME part-timers were cut some were not, full timers were to be cut back to 30-32 hrs. well that only happen for one scheduled posted week, the next scheduled shows them back to 38-40 hrs. Especially part-timers have to check schedule hourly cause one schedule shows working then check the same scheduled later shows days were changed to no hours. Ask the manager...... told we are COMPLAINING....if we don't like it THERE IS THE DOOR...such good management
