Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Of the 1,500 Expats 150 will retain positions

This is fact. The target has been set as a ceiling. 10% keep. I am in the same boat. I was tipped off to get a head start. Now the rest of you have the same advantage...which ain't much, I know. The majority of the jobs are already matched with preferred candidates. This ESP is mostly going through the motions. If you are a preferred candidate for a position and do not apply for it you will receive a call to apply. Good luck to all. And yes round 2 is coming. Chevron is cutting cycle time from 12 months to 8 months. First week of December, if prices do not rise another cut for CNAEP.....this will resemble groundhog day.

I can testify from my own ROM experience that you shouldn't count on keeping your job just because you're most qualified by doing it for the last couple of years. If your manager can help an old pal land a job back home, he'll do it. There's always an excuse, and strong performance won't protect you. Sad but true.

OJ-1 are being written around what the incumbent has been doing not what the returning ex pats has been doing. As for expats being the most qualified person........well I would assume the person doing the job over the last 3 years would be the most qualified not an expat performing a different job. Just my guess

Expats as a class? Y'all have no idea what you're talking about. Being an expat isn't a protected class so no grounds for a discrimination suit. Networking matters at Chevron and expats networked well in order to get the expat assignments in the first place. Sorry but they are going to displace a lot of people and, judging from these posts, that will surprise a lot of people who thought they were safe because the position they are in is still on the org chart.

You people need to pull your heads out of your asses. Over 4000 people are being cut. This whole ESP charade is to avoid losing a lawsuit when expats, as a class of employees, take the biggest hit. Sorry if you believed what you were told when you signed up.

Most expats are above PSG 23/24. Those are the grades where cuts are concentrated. The party is over. Hope your kids like public schools.

A lot of the expats will end up with a job because, in general, the most qualified employees were given expat assignments to begin with.

I think they are saying 10% of the current ex pats will be expats at the end of it not that all of them will be laid off except for 150 of them. The 1500 returning expats will compete for jobs if they are more qualified they will win if not they will lose

You are delusional if you believe only 150 expats will keep their jobs.
