Managers should go around and ask for volunteers to be laid off. There are a lot of unhappy people who would step up and much rather be laid off than keep working in the positions they are in.

Suggestion.....QUIT!
I'm volunteering today. Too many of my buddies are in a tight situation and need a job for their families etc. I don't and I'm also more able to get out of here than them. I'm telling my boss to put me on the list.

Ha just tell your boss you would be interested in a severance if a package is offered....it actually helps your boss.
would make sense but hey, that's not what runs the place! If you want out, ask your manager to put you on the list. I know some folks who've done it and got on it, worth a try?
