This afternoon Devon Energy announced layoffs of 20% or approximately 1000 workers companywide (about 700 in OKC). Supervisory layoffs will occur tomorrow, 2/17 and non-supervisory layoffs will occur Thursday, 2/18. Several executives left the company today. According to KOCO, Devon will be locked down for the next two days and no visitors or vendors will be permitted on campus. Employees are encouraged to be at work once the layoffs begin. I applaud Devon for giving notice to its personnel of the upcoming layoffs. In some ways it is easier to get it over with as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the Twitter link to the Devon email - the email was pretty detailed and it served to notify the employees of what will happen over the next two days. Wish all companies would be that transparent.
