Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Selection process for Upstream.

I love how they (JJ and MB) just had to send out these emails about the selection process for the upcoming layoffs. I guess they just couldn't wait until after the holidays were over. I cannot understand the timing. Everyone knows it is coming. Having these emails confirm that it will be drug out for 4 more months will likely just make people more anxious...but they want you to stay focused on your job and try not to think about what is coming as they continue to send you emails to repeatedly remind you of the impending doom.

Incorrect. Etc is not part of the current ROM. Just did one. Might do another later on but no word on that.

California and Louisiana dropped office dress codes 30 years ago. It's all part of lowering standards and leveling the status to lower middle class. It's class war fare to transform the nation into Democrat-Socialists.

Having a good work ethic includes dressing professionally. Make it a part of your 2016 goal to do a better job.

I don't care what you got on..it isn't about a dress code it's about a work ethic that nobody has anymore...act like you give a hoot about getting your job done right, support your team, field team, put in just a little effort, quit the BS and wasting half a day or more a week in meetings about how this process or that process should work! Your time is better spent daily with actual communication with both inside and outside customers rather than BS internal company meetings. Business meetings should be limited to 1 hour a week per person, then we will all be more productive!

So true @4guf. I've seen women come to work in house slippers and seen occasionally shuffling about the office. It's a downright disgrace. How is it these people are not reprimanded, if not pulled aside by the supervisor? A dress code of some kind should be implemented throughout Chevron and made part of everyone's ePMP. Your salary grade should also dictate the dress code. At a minimum, it will set an example to the subordinates if the higher PSG types dress according to their positions in the company.

I have seen too many women come to HOU150 in the summer months wearing shower thongs, aka the $2.99 flip flops from Walgreens that nobody should wear unless they are taking a shower in a one star motel or walking on a desolate beach. Disgusting lack of professionalism gets people fired in times like these.

I like the idea of a jacket (or suit) and tie for men and pant suits or business dress for women in the office. Why not dress like the people pictured in every PowerPoint and Intranet webpage we have? Talk about a proud place to be working in. As for the field offices and offshore sites, casual clothing and blue jeans is fine unless clean FRC jump suit clothing is mandated.

Follow on from the last post - the process is being used to enable certain bigots and bullies in Chevron to get a permanent last attack in against victims of bullying. This is especially evident in GOM where bigotry is rife and anyone different from those from south east Louisiana is summarily given a negative rating as the foundation for running them out the company. They are the most admired company, apparently.

No, this is not a problem for the drilling engineers. Kudos to you working hard in the field and offshore. The idea of effective change in the new Chevron is to promote structure and discipline. There are several routes to accomplish this. One is being done now through layoffs. It's not going perfectly, but we are aiming to retain the best people and ridding the company of the less productive and some of the high-cost redundant positions. Aside from all this a company has to change the structure and implement discipline to promote success. The simplest means to promote discipline is through dress attire. Dress for success promotes discipline and discipline promotes success. It's the same concept seen in academies and military schools. I for one will like to see this and as a team leader at Chevron will push for this happening.

There will be a new form of respect around the new Chevron. Without discipline, everything starts to slide. Disipline in your profession will be a must for success, and discipline in appearance will also be demanded. Take your paycheck and start dressing like you work for a Fortune 100 company. Slackers will be demoted and shunned. Ultimately you will quit if not fired.

No, @1sla the layoffs will start with you. 1zcx is correct. If you can't be a professional in your intelligence or persona, you should go. The new Chevron doesn't need people like you.

Totally agree with you. All non-professionals need to go. Everyone needs to start behaving and dressing like professionals in the office. You are paid a good salary so start dressing and acting the part. It's an embarrassment to have vendors and outside representatives show up in the Chevron offices to see many of the employees dressed so casually and with an unkept appearance. Get your haircut, shave the scraggly beard or groom it properly, put on some descent leather shoes and lose the old tennis shoes or house slippers. Dress and act like professionals if you want to remain at Chevron. Word of advise - make that your New Years resolution. Show some respect to yourself and your company.

Let's hope the layoff's begin with some of the non-professional women who dress like 10 year olds in Houston. Maybe your "little girl" sorority act works in bars but it is so unprofessional in the office.

It will be better in the end for those who still have jobs with Chevron. Those younger people may find equivalent paying jobs, but the older employees may not be so lucky. I hope they are financially prepared for early retirement, because that's all they may have. Chevron may need to cut personnel because of the downturn, but they are obligated to have integrity and tell the everybody the truth. Instead, the company plays games and keeps employees in the dark, until all of a sudden the rug is pulled from under them. This company SUCKS.

A very complicated letter, we also like being kept informed. But we can certainly understand for all of the younger men and women who are not ready to end their careers with Chevron. You sit for months waiting sitting on pins and needles, your stomach is in knots. We remember those days with Texaco layoffs. It is certainly gut wrenching and a terrible time. I wish everyone a prosperous 2016. It may take some time, but we will all move on whether it be with Chevron, with another company, or retirement. I am an optimist… it maybe tough for awhile but we will be better in the end.

Chevron enjoys watching their employees squirm. How does this company management ever think their employees will trust them in the future? If I remain here after this is over, I guarantee the company will only get 50% productivity and 0% loyalty out of me.

I'll go against the common wisdom here and I like the communication even if early, vague and during the holidays.

Gives us more time to polish resume.

Field people shouldn't be in-scope since they should be O&M but that's left up to the BUs and not this upstream ROM.

I am not really sure if there is anything new in this email other than what we already know. They are just trying to ensure that they are frequently communicating with the organization. Some things are very vague. Are non-US based employees from places like Canada working as expats in the US in scope?
