Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

GOM Corruption

I've worked with a few BUs, and for some reason GOM has always been the one that gave off a scent of something not quite right, upper executives very friendly with vendors to a fault, and the persecution of the little man for receiving menial tributes so as to not throw light on the big men for receiving nice gifts and not so menial tokens of appreciation.

All in all not flattering for men and women charged with leading a great company to greatness.

California is just as corrupt as the GOM. Ask anyone who worked in Bakersfield about kickbacks and nepotism.

Don't talk too much or you may end up with a croc head in your bed and an offer you can't refuse.

I'm not stupid, my wise friend. Of course they can track my IP address, but it won't do anyone much good since I post these comments from a public wifi. In this case, I posted my comment from an area Starbucks. (Same as this one).

No buddy, I'm not a whistle blower. I'm in on the graft and lining my pockets while collecting my high salary.

Don't be bitter about it though. There is plenty of illegal fraud going around Chevron, I think less than your average oil & gas company. You must've gotten laid off for being a "whistle blower" of sorts? Join the club, and be thankful to get out before they make your life hell or turn you into a fraudster...my 3 cents.

The people monitoring the "checks and balances" are in on the game. That's why no problems are uncovered. My friend, I've worked in the GOM oil business for a long time, in and out of Chevron. I've lived in Louisiana since I was 15 years old. It's the culture and mentality of the people. Just look at it as the way business is done around here. You get with the plan or you get out of the business.

I've learnt more about this subject working in Cov than I ever wanted to learn. The mastery with which this is executed is down to a managerial art form. If the culprits put half as much effort into doing their jobs well they would be much better off.

Look for unusual levels of advocacy for certain contractors whilst simultaneously squashing others for minor work missteps because they won't play. Also look for violent reactions if the favourite contractor is at risk of losing any work. Finally, after retirement, the no-show jobs with the contractor will make it all apparent if it wasn't already.

What I have not understood is how it can happen with all the supposed checks and balances in place.

Louisiana is perhaps the most corrupt state in the U.S. Graft and favors in the oil business is pervasive and maybe in countries overseas even more than here. It's a mentality and the culture. Sometimes in this business, you need to hold your nose and jump right in. We do have competitors, you know. Participate or get out.

GOM is by far the worst. Its like working with a group of petulant, spoiled children whose entire culture is based around persecuting others. There are some good people, but the culture is a disgrace. They jump on anyone for anything, real or imagined. It's a horrible, oppressive environment to be in. The people almost relish victimizing and persecuting others. I've known so many good staff at Chevron relieved to get out of there and from under the team leads who despise anyone not from Louisiana.
