Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

EDMC Called a "Scandal Machine"

"The nation’s for-profit, private college industry is a study in horror...Education Management Corporation operates four college systems, offering courses online and in office buildings in 32 states. EDMC gives its recruiters extravagant financial incentives to pressure low-income people into taking-out huge federal education loans in order to pay for courses at the corporation’s colleges. EDMC has been sucking up more than a billion dollars a year from these students, who generate some 90 percent of its revenue. But its courses are mediocre to worthless, leaving graduates in unbearable debt and unable to get jobs with salaries high enough to pay off their loans. Bear in mind that this sleazy fraud isn’t the work of some fly-by-night hucksters. EDMC is largely owned by Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs.".....................

Jesus 5 years later and Camden Kid is STILL TALKING ABOUT the same s***. Cam do you KNOW anyone that works for these institutions?

Where are these extravagant financial incentives? We weren't even allowed to have pizza parties because it would be considered "rewarding us financially".

And if you even give off a HINT of pressure to prospective students....you're done.

Basically get a f*cking life and stop posting the same article every 2 months.

I call studentsvfrom my own cell phone to make sure they get their ass in class. I have more luck with female students because I become friends with them on Facebook and flirt my ass off. The program's here at Ai are a joke but thank goodness for the vouchers for equipment it's the ace in the hole for me that's why I start 3 every start, well almost every start lol I'm going into my 5th year here at Ai and I can't wait to see what else I can get away with in 2016. My back pack will be filled with more supplies I can tell you that.

Recruiters are Turd Blossoms of EDMC. In case you dont know, that was the same name George Bush used to call Karl Rove his campaign adviser. Its very appropriate here. Basically its a flower in Texas that only grows in scat. Making everything seem pretty until you step in it.

Are recruiters really so detached that they believe that this is the best option for students? Flexible schedules? You mean like.. "hey, you have to take this daytime class because if you don't you won't graduate on time and the next time this class is offered it still might not be offered during a night or weekend." Do you guys not realize the Art Institutes brand teaches students the same classes over and over and charges them a stupid amount of money? Maybe you recruiters believe that you are doing the right thing but the fact that current students are still dropping out for the same reasons people were dropping out years ago shows me nothing has changed with the curriculum. Just because you are wrapping your turd in some sort of perceived level of ethics doesn't mean your turd isn't still a turd that is ruining people's lives.

Camden were you just awful at your job? You actually talk to people, see if the school fits them, and talk. You act like the place is still, "yes I promise this meets all requirements for the job you're getting." And bullshitting students. You get straight fired if you're misrepresenting anything about the school. Many people feel this is their best option because they are working full time, have a family, and often times have college experience already. Especially with the lawsuit settlement preying on weakness, misrepresenting anything about the school, and high pressure are frowned upon. It is possible to get 17+ students in a 6 month period doing the job ethically.

@Fdt2N2D-fwp, what does it take for a recruiter to get 17 students? Do you have to mislead students about the costs or gainful employment? At this point, what incentive is there for anyone to go to Ai or another EDMC school versus going to a community college or other public college?

Hilarious, that article was written yesterday by some 'crusader' who probably has never written a single article about higher ed. For once, there is better info int he comments than the actual article. Get a clue

Camden Kid, why are you addressing something that was stopped 6/7 years ago. They removed that grid style of payment where you needed to get as many students as possible and also get high marks as an employee to make the most money. ARs don't get paid like that now. Why don't you actually spend time finding new information instead of regurgitating old information.

I'm in recruiting. There are no incentives short of keeping yourself from being put on a plan and fired. If I get 17 or 27 my pay is the same.
