Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

2016 Layoffs

Union Pacific will be decreasing it's Chicago Service Unit, mechanical department workforce by 20%. That's about 400 individuals that make up the Chicago Service Unit. It includes all crafts that make up the Service Unit. This will happen sometime in January or February. This is fact. I'm sorry.

After 120 plus years some genius says we can make it better. Here's a thought stop complicating our lives with your rules and third world ways. You want to save money rid us of mgrs standing over our backs jumping out the woods and all the other elementary stuff they do. They are not needed, we do the work in all types weather all day. I don't even monitor my kids like this yet alone my dog, I bet they hired some outsider from another country creating this hell environment.

If we get rid of all the omt's doing traing that has no value it might make save the company some money. Or get rid of the managers that don't know anything and let the real workers in that can actually produce work may help out . there cutting foreman general jobs to save money and putting managers that have no clue about rail cars or rail industry is the problem . ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE IS MONEY CRUNCHERS and worry about them making money not the railroad or the employee's lives it effects

Jobs will be cut in the coal regions first. Oil regions is next if oil continues to drop to levels seen in the coal industry. Good example is Denver. The states with the largest recoverable coal reserves are, in descending order, Wyoming, West Virginia, Illinois, and Montana.
