I'm not a troll but a former employee who was let go after 27 years of unblemished service. The layoff process was humiliating and embarrassing to all who endured. Armed security guarding the "layoff communication rooms" was particularly embarrassing. Personally - I am ashamed of the treatment during the process for the company who is admired for its people, partnership and performance. Clearly - the Chevron Way concept is purely lip service for the benefit of the investor community. However - I am thankful for the severance pay and pension benefits earned over the past 27 years. I am much better off than most Americans due to a company who rewarded their employees for their performance. I do believe there is an opportunity for further reductions (while reductions are prevelant across the industry) to align work with labor required. With the substantial reduction in work, there should be more reductions in labor. Chevron could easily cut 50% or more and not miss a deadline or production goal. There are way too many "fluff" positions which need to be pared. LS roles/ excess mgt managing essentially no one. Clearly there is so much more to be done with personnel reductions. I sincerely hope Chevron has the courage to take the step to become more lean and profitable.

Armed security were in the main corridors outside the layoff communication rooms. These were extra security personnel ( not the regular onsite security ) if you weren't able to see their weapons loosely hidden by their jackets - you were either too far away or didn't look.
Where did they have armed guards? I saw security but never anyone armed so I'm curious where they were.

And if you want the younger people getting laid off is probably because you're part of the fluff you know making presentations and re-doing presentations and then re-doing presentations and then redoing them again you probably have a tough time getting a job so I go try to get one the federal government they have a lot of fluff

I was given my package, and allowed to return to my office to say good bye and collect my personal items I needed that day. The HR department has been helpful with questions I had after the process and I received all payments except for the year end bonus in a timely matter.

When Chevroids are encouraged to antagonize others over coffee lids, holding hand rails, backing in parking and all the other things that make up this school playground mentality, are you surprised at the brown shirts rolling out armed security?
The armed guard is 100% the Chevron way. They are paranoid about coffee cup lids, you don't think they would be afraid of disgruntled employees? Especially when the layoffs are more pay vs position based than performance based.
I'm glad they had the armed guard. Not everyone wants to go peacefully. Do you want to be the newly promoted boss who was put there specifically to fire people (and will get fired after) and top it off by someone assaulting or harassing you? I wouldn't.
Chevron way has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with invasive risk aversion.
I concur. The off-boarding process was humiliating. The armed security was a bit much, and also frightened the other co-workers around my office when they were first seen. This makes one feel like a criminal, like the FBI showed up to arrest you or something.

I've heard that a lot of companies handle layoffs just the same way. The guard is for a possible unstable employee who loses it and becomes dangerous.
OP, I concur 100% with your comment. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. After 27 years, I'd guess you will retire or may seek consulting work for another 3-5 years. It's a real shame the manner in which Chevron handled these layoffs.
