I can't figure that one either. Different culture and no willingness to assimilate to American ways.

Muslims won't eat bacon because they say it's unclean. Yet, they have no apprehension about using their hand to wipe their ass. I can't figure that one out.

@9mic - I haven't written a BBS self-observation of going to the bathroom to take a dump, but I have memorized the JSA that was written by an old pro.

Step 1) Check first to see if there is enough toilet paper, else you may end up having to use your left hand like a Muslim to wipe your ass.

Step 2) Flush the toilet before unbuckling your pants, as the toilet may not flush or is plugged up.

Step 3) Make sure the stall door is locked, else you could be in for a surprise by someone who downed 3 breakfast tacos a little too fast 15 minutes ago.

Step 4) Make sure you hide your shoes if you hear someone enter the bathroom so they can't identify you later on in the day, especially if people would think you ate a skunk for lunch.

Step 5) Don't flush the toilet until after you have finished your business, tucked your shirt into your pants and buckled your belt and you know nobody is in the bathroom, just in case the load you dumped won't flush without overflowing the toilet. This will give you a quick chance to escape without blame.

BBS is some bullshit waste of time

Precisely, @9jvt. We see a lot of examples from our so-called leaders at work that translate to nothing more than "Do as I say, not as I do". That's why most of our processes are weak or broken. Our leaders are perceived to be all rhetoric and not leading by example. Often times, there is no consequences or reprimand. So the lesson for everyone is "Do as you wish". A company like Chevron cannot succeed this way.

BBS for me...

Definitely a place in the field but took something simple and made it complex. However, it did allow whole functions, teams and individuals flourish plus gave lots of opportunity for some to embrace, tick a box and move on up.

However....saw it in action one day....

A gentleman who would ultimately be responsible for global safety had been giving the PC speech about behaviours, etc, etc including no cell-phone usage whilst driving. Guess who overtook me leaving the parking lot chatting happily away on his cell..... Lead by example indeed.

Has anyone written a BBS self-observation of going to the bathroom to take a dump? There might be some lessons learned for others to profit by. Be original with your BBS submittals.

As soon as that happens, BESE will shut the platform in.

Good process, was doomed from the start back in 95ish when GOM independent BBS programs were consolidated into GATOR. Quickly became something it should have never been, instead of allowing it to mature into what it should have become, it became a crutch supporting increasingly atrophied legs. A long story for another day.

Yes indeed. BBS in the field may have some kind of positive effect, but in the office is a pure waste of productivity. What can take the place of BBS in the office are cameras everywhere in public places and a few well trained individuals (on random rotational duty) who secretly and anonymously will observe the employees. Any safe and unsafe acts will result in merits or demerits on the employee's ePMP. Even unproductive time will be noted. I think that will definitely work well.

I never really did one, I just made them up in my head. As if I'm really going to yell STOP at someone who is walking and texting at the same time. Run into the wall, I don't give a crap.

It's easy to tell the pampered desk jockeys from people who do physical labor based on their comments about BBs.

Anything that doesn't pay a dividend is considered a waste of time. BBS falls into that category. Don't count only the time it takes you to complete an observation. Add in the time it takes the BBS committee to meet each month to mull over useless data. Add the time it takes the BBS Admin to run and analyze data and make presentations to management and to the multiple workgroups. Factor in the wrong decisions that are made on mostly bogus data (yes, the majority of us enter false observations). Add it all up and it's a waste of time and energy. It may even be called counter- productive, which is worse.

BBS does not take enough time to be considered a waste of time. Not sure while people complained. 1 per month is nothing. Those that had to do 3 per day in field operations didn't complain either. The PMP and CDP BS wasted more of my time than BBS ever did. If my boss makes all the calls anyway, why don't they fill out my PMP and CDP?
