Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

no one is applying here anymore

Word has spread through the city about layoffs and people who have been here 10+ years getting fired. That doesn't foster the atmosphere of a great company to work for. My team is short 5 people right now and we aren't getting anyone to apply.

They are ruining their future for the short term and as talented people eventually quit or lose their jobs there is no one left to replace them.

As a customer who feels the effects of all the best people being laid off, it kills me to see the bs Now Hiring sign in the window with fresh shiny promises in corpspeak. Adds insult to injury.

Hopefully you're in school for something that will actually pay you. Tons of people still working here don't have a backup plan.

On unemployment right now. Even when my unemployment runs out I am NOT going back there. Not at $11/hr, not for 20 hrs/wk when my school schedule will require me to have a somewhat set work schedule. No thanks!

Compared to all the people who are being let go, the ratio is skewed right now for sure. My store hasn't hired anyone since october, and have lost uummm more than 20 since then. This attrition thing is in full effect.

Yes this is a perfect place to be a part timer....forever. Cumerbland Farms, Wawa, RaceTrak and 7-11 all hire full time. Walmart Neighborhood Market is ALWAYS busy nearby and they hire full time too and just boosted their pay. WFM is the ideal job is you want to continue to use drugs. Everyone else tests for that. Now everybody please feel free to take a bong break and then clock back in!

If it's not that hard why are those who were layed off still sucking the unemployment teet? Why won't people who absolutely loathe company just leave? Funny how you talk about this not being a career when many who had the opportunity to move up simply didn't. Exactly what are these people going to do that's somehow bigger and better than their entry level grocery store position? What about those with no higher education background? And unemployment rates don't factor in part time versus full time work. And if someone who has been working at WFM for a while now making 17+ at an entry level position goes to find a new job you know what will happen? They won't get paid as much. Sure wf traps you into thinking this is as best as you can do, but when your state pays nothing but the federal minimum wage at most places then problem is bigger than this company.

It's not hard to find a job anymore, you phonies. Don't look now but unemployment is half what it was four years ago and jobs are everywhere. Nobody needs to work part-time with no career, unless of course, they need a company that doesn't drug test. A-ha! No wonder you're flooded with applications. Time for you Kool Aid drinkers to hit the bong.

No lies or bs...straight talk with applicants about part time being the forever reality. No issues hiring at all...and more apply with every posting ....people still want to work and work at WFM....even if you don't think so....

As an atl we get tons of apps and are truthful about the positions being part time. It's never been a problem. Either your tl is doing a shit job of recruiting and interviewing or simply just doesn't want to hire up. Considering the economy and how hard it can be to find a job in general I doubt word is spreading like wildfire about our company. When it comes down to it, if someone needs money even pt work will do.

@1svb tons of apps to pick and choose for those great pt 20 positions or does the interview leader tell that lie about "oh when a full time position opens up"...or the ol "if ya work real good we will give ya full time..." both lies to give our insurance money to wall street..im still not seeing prices go down.are you?

I feel like half the problem at my store is that leadership doesn't want to hire anyone else. They just want to stretch the remaining TMs to death, beyond what they should be doing. Why hire someone else when you can make a current TM do the jobs of two other people you fired in addition to his or her own?

They're going to burn loyal, longtime people out and hire cheaper people to replace them.

Win-win?
