Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I Don't Feel Bad

I don't work for COP. I don't work in the energy sector at all. I do live in eastern Oklahoma, so I've had to watch for several years as a bunch of high school dropouts rode around in $70,000 trucks on the oil field cash they were making while I paid $3.50+ a gallon for regular unleaded. I travel a lot for work, and I absolutely LOATH sharing a hotel with the rude, rambunctious, asinine oil field crews that were driving up the prices of everything in the state. I've done that for YEARS!

I take no little amount of sadistic joy in your collective industry comeuppance. And I don't feel bad.

What has baffled me is why & how Ponca City with a refinery in town, pays higher gas prices than Newkirk, Pawhuska, and everyone else in Oklahoma. This has gone on for years, must have been an under the table agreement in a cigar smoked room that smelled of "let's screw Ponca City.

Thanks for telling me. I'll be sure to put double the pickles on your Big Mac.

That's the general idea, yes. Don't pretend you gave a crap when poor families were having to decide between food and gas to drive to work. When the rest of the world was getting gouged by insane gas prices, you and your ilk were riding the high life. So, now that the shoe is on the other foot, you have no right to expect any more consideration than you gave. $100 oil may be back someday. Not soon, but someday. Until that time, just remember; I don't like pickles on my Big Mac.

So because you had to pay more for gas you don't feel bad that our entire livelihood is being taken away? Because a few bad eggs bought trucks and acted like fools you take pleasure from hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs? I feel I can safely assume that you are the same person who bitches at work constantly about every little thing. The same one that doesn't get invited to poker nights because nobody wants to listen to your self righteous bull shit. The same person who is convinced that he is the only person at his job that possibly does anything that adds value.

SOOOO glad to see this!! I feel the same way. I worked in the oil fields and let me tell you, whilst it is a "hard" job, it's not that hard. Long hours? yep! Work in rain, hail, snow, or thunderstorms? you bet. But it wasn't all that "hard". I will be looking for cheap used new trucks!

You are an idiot. Your state and the schools depend on oil and gas.

The obvious displeasure in these responses makes me happy. Oil is only going lower. Get your bitter posts out while you can still afford that high speed internet bill! I'll be enjoying the peace and quiet in my hotel room.

And I won't feel bad for you when Saudi Arabia puts most ot the small oil companies out of business and then rake their prices to over 100 again.

I also lived in Norhteast Oklahoma all my life until I transferred 3 times across Oklahoma ending up in Arkansas chasing my pipeline dreams to provide a good life for my family. My Mother worked for Phillips 20 years and then COP an additional 2 before retireing. I was raised in the water floods of Osage county seeing my Dad check wells 7 days a week while also working to own a roustabout company. The "oilfield" life has provided for me 38 years and like many others is all I know. How about next time one of us interrupts your sleep, come on over and we will be more than happy to put you back to sleep.

Aren't you a special person. Those high gas prices will return, then you can whine about how Big Oil is sticking it to you and controlling the prices.

I bet you couldn't shake it in the oil fields anyway! There is a reason oil field-men get paid what they do... it is a HARD job. And it takes a certain kind of person who is willing to do that so I don't feel badly about your disturbed hotel sleep. Also, read up on simple economics to learn why oil prices go up and down. Trust me, the oil companies would gladly want to put prices back up to your mentioned amount!

It takes hard working people to put gas into your tank. You don't like.... then walk!

Interesting perspective. The oil and gas industry is synonymous with boom and bust cycles both of earning and spending. The consequences for the towns and the residents of the towns is disastrous. The oil and gas employees simply leave at the bust.
