Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

60% of jobs opening up

I am waiting to see if I will get a Visa extension, or if I will be classified as a "Must Move" for this PDC process.

When I heard that there would be 60% of the jobs opened up, it actually gives me more hope that I will find another job within Chevron. I am thinking that there will be a lot of people check the box saying that they are willing to accept the severance, since I know of several that did that in the last PDC. With more people eligible, there should be more takers. That would free up positions for those of us who still need to wotk a few more years. I know that my PMP was rated as a +2 when it was sent to SASBU, so as long as it survived there, I should be good, or at least that is what I keep telling myself.

If I am left standing, I know that I will make less money, but it is an exciting prospect; moving to a new company, in a new city and state.

I want to wish all of those who will participate in this Enterprise the best of luck, and hope that if you want severance, you get it, and if you want a job, one is there for you.

Oh yes. 3 expats over season have already been promisedone positions. I am long time friends with one. 150 of these guys are safe the others are gone. And yes it's about relationships not results. We will add more incompetence to an already incompetent leadership team.

The gravy train ran off the tracks... Sinking ship and the musicians are playing on the deck of the Titanic. The pictures these phases bring to mind has me chuckling.

I agree, CVX is laying off 60% of the local workforce and replacing them with the US payroll expats which are returning home. The BU's will be decimated and the "golden boys" will be placed into the jobs once held by others. I was moved to a distant BU for a "great career opportunity" and I will be laid off in BFE and on my dime to return to civilization. This ESP is a legal way to let thousands of people go. The CVX management team is desperate to repair the sinking ship while the musicians are playing on the deck of the Titanic.

The lower the PG and the closer you are to the wellhead is better. And yes there is no open 60% of jobs. It should be stated as the previous poster stated that work force will be cut by 60%. The gravy train ran off the tracks.

So here is what nobody is getting and Chevron is not saying. They are keeping 40%. The 60% are not opened up! They are gone! Our first email said CNAEP waso going to see the majority of the 6,000 layoffs. Now because Chevron truly is looking at sub $30 oil 15,000 are in gone for the enterprise layoff. As my boss said if you're in the 60% you have less than a 5% chance if that to be employed at Chevron.

I was in the same situation as the guy moved from Midtown to other BU expecting the same office culture. I was very very wrong. There was a lot of subtle office politics in play. I worked 15 years in the SJVBU rotating within three BUs (Kern River, Trumble. ..) However in the LABU my particular experience had got me disappointed. Supervisor play game and favors. A competiting lady colleague knew how to play the game. I got pushed out of the office loop and eventually unsuccessful in the ROM. More resources and power should be given to the Ombus Department to carry out their job.

If you are an expat it will be difficult to secure a job back in your home country and even harder to keep your current job as an expat. I hope a lot of people in your future role checks out and takes the retirement package. I wish you the best of luck 2016 is going to be bloody across the industry.

I'm 38 and was in a very hostile environment after I mistakenly moved from Midcon to another BU expecting the same kind of office culture as before. I was RAE'd out by a supervisor who aggressively looked to persecute me (I wasn't his only target) and my last day was Oct 16th. I received the first -2 of my 15 year career for 5 months under him. I didn't want to leave Chevron, but I did want to leave the office environment I was in, so there was a trade off. I was able to time a new job with about 95% salary replacement and relocation etc on top of Chevrons (generous) severance package - timed it so I was only out of work 6 weeks. There is a world out there beyond Chevron and you just need to realize that and work for it. I know my health had greatly improved after getting out of the worst experience of my career to date. Best of luck to you, and don't pay attention to the Chevron employees on here who will gloat over your misfortune.

The market for good jobs is tight. I was ROM'ed in the middle of 2015 and have applied for about 25 jobs. I am 56 years old, so my age is making it difficult. Although I possess a degree and experience in my field, I have not been called once for an interview in all this time. I have all but given up looking. I will not have to lower my expectations and seek a lesser job. Perhaps I may need to dumb down my resume to not be seen as over qualified. I will never hold Chevron (the company and its managers) in high esteem anymore. Since I left, I've been told by my friends still there, many low performers still remain.

Best wishes. Even though I didn't make it through the last ROM in October, I certainly don't like seeing anyone lose their job. I would also share some advice with you. Start brushing up your resume, collecting contact names and non-cvx email addresses, and get your LinkedIn profile to 100%. Better to be prepared sooner, than later. This job market so far (engineering) has been tough. I've applied to at least 40-50 roles that I am capable of, and have only had 3 calls back so far. In better times, nearly all would call back. Be prepared for this, it isn't like it was.
