1yfv, were you an MBA in/ from their finance program or commercial development program? Thanks.

I'm an MBA, and was laid off in 2015. The degree itself does not save you, just the degree of familial closeness you have with various managers. Can anybody spell N-E-P-O-T-I-S-M?
1wfu -- Well said. At Chevron, "We don't need no stinking MBAs." A four-day CPDEP seminar and another PMP course for supervisors transforms a former phone center worker, or roustabout (with relatives at CVX) into managers. MBAs should work at companies that are well managed, where business analysts have a say on projects, whether or not to invest $60 billion on LNG when natural gas is hovering at $2 per MBTU.
He will have to compete with the friends and family MBA's who get them through an "executive" MBA program.
If you're referring to the Finance MBA program, I HIGHLY doubt they'd bring bring them in and lay them off. In fact, they're like a precious faberge egg. Over the life of the program Chevron would've invested too much in them to give them the ax. They'd have to seriously screw up for that to happen. And even then it's a stretch. The program IS highly regarded--it's the prime source for succession planning for leadership roles within Chevron (our chairman is a product of the program). In fact, I would even say that's the ONLY way you should consider joining Chevron. Otherwise an MBA graduate w/o being in a leadership program is essentially overlooked. And as soon as you start promoting the fact that you have an MBA, you're viewed as an annoyance. To summarize, MBA leadership program = GOOD. MBA w/o leadership program = UNDERVALUED. Hope this helps!
If he is a competent "MBA", I would not recommend to get in Chevron because sometime soon he would certainly want to be laid off hoping a decent severance package.
@1byf, no that MBA program was not highly regarded. It was highly retarded.
Haha yes because leaders can simply take a few trainings and boom you have a leader. Well..... A chevron leader. Ah yes. Which brings us to the present.
He will be part of the Finance Leadership MBA program. Same program that many of the past and future Chevron leaders have been part of. I thought that program was highly regarded.
MBAs are few at CVX, and not respected. Is he on the family and friends plan?
MBAs are not safe. An MBA doesn't mean much these days. Tell him to take anything other than an oil and gas job if he has the option. I know several MBAs being laid off, and many more actively looking for positions outside Chevron.
LOL 'nuff said
He'll keep his job at the expense of others. Just don't expect anyone to be too nice to him. He hasn't started and he already sounds like a jerk. His mommy's "friend" came to this site or are you his MOMMY!!!!!!!
Don't worry we'll be on the lookout for old nephew. Hope he can take some good kidding, MOMMY!
Your "friend's nephew"? Really LOL?? Why are you posting on behalf of your "friend's nephew"? Did his MBA not teach him how to use online forums? LOL
A young MBA who has just been offered a job by Chevron won't be cut. Chevron will layoff a 25+ year career employee in exchange for a brilliant youngster paid half the older employee's salary. A good trade as far as Chevron sees it.
Having a MBA doesn't exempt from the various layoff projects or the enterprise moves. So, yes, "MBAs" are being laid off too. A MBA actually isn't all that special at Chevron. PetroTechs are the favored children and they are also being laid off.
If your friend's nephew has been given in offer, he should not worry if getting cut. Chevron has been in this mode for one year now. He is young and also has an MBA. Chevron will keep him and jettison a 25+ year veteran employee earning twice his starting pay.
