Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Schlumberger CEO Paal Kibsgaard received more than $18 million in compensation despite his company cutting 20% of its work force.

Sounds like porky the pig!!

COP may cease as a company by mid-year 2017. A major change in the way COP does business will have to occur but they are still stuck with the mindset of an integrated oil company. Management does not know how to operate as an independent.

SLB is still profitable and in relatively good position for the future. Layoffs really suck, do not get me wrong, and executive compensation is insane. Kibsgaard seemed to do a good job managing during the boom years, and seems to be doing a good job during the bust years. Conversely, COP "management" made countless bad decisions from 2009-2015 during the boom years. Kibsgaard and the rest of SLB management can probably justify their compensations. However, the majority of COP "management" can not justify their compensation levels and golden parachutes. The difference is that SLB, and other top tier companies seem to have management that makes decisions that are best for the company. COP management seems to make decisions that are best for themselves and for their own groups, not what is best for the company. Hence, SLB will be around in 5, 10, and probably even 20 or 30 years. COP will probably not exist as an independent company after 2019.
