the most funny thing that weatherford did not say anything to their security company TA'AZ since they are responsible for any thing that come in or go out the base and from experience as i was working their in South Iraq... things their are disgusting everyone is corrupt from the top management to the supervisors and yet we are still wondering how in the world such materials could be stolen or lost :D what a joke ..

Making unsubstantiated libelous statements might find one at the wrong end of a state or federal civil action. There are such things as subpoena's that can be issued to a site like this to obtain a poster's ip address. I wouldn't make up stories like that if I were you.

I heard rumors the other day that we are in fact selling this material to locals in an effort to raise capital to help survive this downturn in lieu of our insurmountable debt. I hope it won't be weaponized by radical extremists

It actually hurts to see a company that I once loved and was devoted to going through things like this.

WFT has been awfully quiet about loosing this radioactive source. Bad bad publicity though trying to shift responsibility. Shameful by WFT. Will not go unnoticed.

Read your own article.

"Weatherford said in a statement that it was not responsible or liable for the theft. "We do not own, operate or control sources or the bunker where the sources are stored," it said."

There is a Weatherford facility there, but this was SGS's facility, source, and bunker.

It is a shame the media cannot get that correct and we suffer for it.

First this source did not belong to Weatherford. Weatherford did not own the source or the bunker it was secured in. Second it has been recovered.

So instead of laying off good hard working employees I think Weatherford should Fire all involved in loosing this source. If not directly bloody involved then whoever made the decisions with the lack of security, storage arrangements, etc...

I think some global and corporate people should take the hit for this BS.

And regarding the half life.... It doesn't matter what the half life is. This is in the public domain and in the news now. Its very detrimental to the companies image as well as the possible lost faith from investors.

IR-192 has a half-life of approximately 74 days. They are saying it was stolen in Novemeber, so at this point it can't be used as a weapon. That being said, its still CANNOT be lost/stolen.

Weatherford International accepts blame for the disappearance last year of 10 kg radioactive material used to test pipes at an oil field in southern Iraq.

Reuters reports that Iraq is searching for a "highly dangerous" radioactive source whose theft in November had raised fears among Iraqi officials that it could be used as a weapon if acquired by Islamic State.

WFT says it takes 100% responsibility or liability related to the issue, and has answered all inquiries raised by Iraqi and U.S. authorities unsatisfactorily.

Reuters report WFT will be fined millions, possibly as much as $500M, by U.S. authorities
