Will be joining as a summer intern in the Finance MBA Development Program. How are the corporate finance staff viewed in this environment? How is the Finance rotation program affected by the restructuring?

If you are close to money no worry everyone worries about it and will not cut there - it is like the story of the last bean counter- count those beans! no growers finance recommended to fire them!!

Your program will not be affected. Chevron is a massive entity. It will be a fantastic learning experience. Go in with an open mind. Yes it's dysfunctional, but you may get a great supervisor which will make all the difference. The mood may be somber but you will face this temperment again in your career, if not at Chevron, then somewhere. Good luck!

The summer will be good for you. You will learn how a company operates in difficult financial times. Keep your eyes and ears open. Soak it all in. Whether or not Chevron or the oil business is the place for you, the experience will be worthwhile.

Here are some tips, to help insure your acceptance into any Chevron finance group: 1) always show up, at least 30 minutes late,... others will see that as a display of superiority; 2) over dress, in comparison to others; 3) carry a Wall Street Journal, under one arm, when you enter the office; 4) engage NO ONE of lesser rank (that's pretty much everyone, except your immediate supervisor, or his) in conversation, but if it's simply unavoidable, do not make direct eye contact with them; 5) feel free to show disdain, if/when you're asked to perform any task you feel beneath your education, intellect, or real skill level; 6) when attending meetings (and, for sure, attend as many as you possibly can!), never,... NEVER, entertain any question, comment, or observation from any person in the room, except the "highest ranking" one; 7) if the highest ranking person in a meeting (see item #6) is of a lower rank than you (refer to item #4), do not hide your disdain and dismissiveness for them; 8) never feel that you actually have to "contribute" to the general work effort,.... that's why "the others" are there,... YOU are 'special'.
