CIMIC Group has revealed that its disputed claim over a blowout on the construction of a 2.1km jetty at Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project exceeds $2 billion.
A week after disclosing it was seeking private arbitration of the dispute, CIMIC today put its share of the amount being sought by the Saipem Leighton construction consortium at $1.86 billion. Interest costs amounted to more than $500 million extra.
The disclosure appears to support market rumours that the cost of the Barrow Island jetty and marine structures contract blew out to more than $4 billion from an agreed value of $1.85 billion in 2012.
