You do understand what at will employment means? It is legal to fire someone because you don't like his Cologne! Few exceptions that can make a case have a few angles. Protected class...woman, old, black. Best bet is to report a real safety or environmental concern. Report up through management and then when you get canned file under whistle blower federal statute. If it is a truly valid concern Hal won't want it revealed under discovery and settle.

Should of saved your money instead of buying dubs and toys! Hint: go find another job, I hear the border patrol will be hiring!
If you were offered a severance then there are other solutions that can save lawyers expenses. You can bargain a better deal. Especially if you were some level of a manager. Halliburton might settle regardless if a good severance less is than their likely legal costs. In Texas does the loser have to pay everyone's lawyers?
Sorry you lost your job!
All attorneys in this field work on a contingency, just find one or two, tell them what you'd like to do and see if they would take you on a contingency. They will fight for you if they think you have a case.
Save your money
What everyone else has said. Texas is a right to work state. Unless you can PROVE discrimination of some kind your out of luck. Fair? hell no. but it's reality...
Sorry that you were hit too. Unfortunately, this layoff is occurring in the midst of a known oil industry downturn, so they are pretty well protected from backlash. Good luck to you.
No chance in Texas? If I search for Wrongful Termination in Texas, there is at least a few dozen attorney names that pop up with that specialty. It may be harder in Texas, but it's doable indeed. BTW, I have no horse in this game, I retired in 2011.
No chance in Texas. Also that is what you get for throwing away your talent on oil.
Gold digger...
Good luck but the chances of winning such a suit as the result of a layoff is nearly zero. In Texas, it's likely below zero.
