Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Volunteer for Layoffs?

I would like to volunteer for layoffs in order to hopefully obtain some severance. This also may save someone's job.

I have almost 6 years in with the company.

Are there any managers on this forum who can advise on how I could go about doing this?

I have a fairly firm commitment with for a new job with another company who doesn't pull this crap.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I asked my manager to put me on the list for the next wave of lay-offs. I have had it with this company.

However, I doubt they would do you the favor of laying you off if they were aware that you were going to a new job.

It's pretty clear that some people let go from my area were ones that were not liked by upper management although that is not the corporate BS line that is given.

It's noble that you would offer that, but legally it can't happen. Certain positions have been eliminated and due to labor laws the people whose job code falls within those positions have to be laid off regardless of their work ethic, contribution to the company, or ability. You could resign your position but it wouldn't do anything to help the full timers that were let go.
