Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why so f--king cheap

Dude friggin Dolby can give employees a choice of macbook pro vs a Windows laptop. And you get a desktop linux workstation that actually works from the start in almost every tech company alongside a functional laptop. Why the hell is qualco soo f--king cheap giving out crap lenovo laptops that crash at every opportunity as the only machine to do engineering work on?

What's even funnier; Microsoft office is included which costs a sh-t ton of money. What's wrong with Google docs or openoffice or libreoffice?

WHY IS THIS COMPANY SO F--KING CHEAP???

Most of you don't need a top of the line macbook though. For most of yoy, what the IT dept has given you (Dell or Lenovo) is more than sufficient for what you end up needing the laptop for anyway...surfing porn on Friday nights and over the weekend.

And they reason why the laptop is slow, it is probably because your porn websites are triggering websense filters. I am sure if you buy yourself an external harddrive, and install Linux, and boot into that before your desperate weekend porn jam sessions, your company issued laptop is more than enough. Plus, with an external hard drive, you can save all the pictures and videos you want.

Actually, you usually had to come into Qualcomm at Staff or higher, and make it a condition of employment, or they wouldn't give you one. Nice thing about Linux, though, is that it strips off most of the Windows crap--including the stupid "helpful graphics" and those little "confidential" footers Qualcomm likes to insert in every document.

One Windows Laptop with X-Windows for accessing Linux servers at Intel and other chip companies I worked at. You needed to be a Staff Engineer or better to get a Sun Workstation at QC when I worked there.
