Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Are execs thinking about employee morale at all?

I guess that should play a role in the company's success? Right? So, if you constantly ship jobs overseas and cut resources domestically, how can you be successful?

Intense focus on transformation has resulted in massive restructuring and also massive work migration to off-shore and near shore locations. This has greatly affected US teams. Smart folks work here, enraged folks but with moral dipping so low more and more people are tuning out... The morale is so shaken it's beyond repair... At least in SWG... I heard that GBS is a bit better though...

SWG used to be the "place to be." When I came in around 15 years ago, people were motivated, well trained, advocates and evangelists of the product and the company. It's a wasteland now. I don't know a single person that doesn't despise the company and the products. Even one notorious long-time "company man" and brown-noser finally agrees that the rest of us were right all along. He's shopping his resume around and it will be a big loss when he goes. He was actually hoping to be in this round until he heard about the 4 weeks severance. He's a product lead and laughs about the horrible code that is being rushed into stuff and lack of testing. Lots of time-bombs and easter eggs in the code by pissed off coders. It's the Office Space of software development now.

I am not the OP but know a bit about SWG... Anyhow, there is a ton of divesting going on, they are scrambling to develop and repackage cloud products, yet another reorg of the sales folks, layoffs, etc. Nothing new though, it was just like that when you left, maybe a bit more cloud flavor now... Things are not looking good.
