Throughout my years I have tried to live a decent life. This has often been disadvantageous resulting in being stabbed in the back too often. Therefore I have learned there are some things to be wary. A hairless baboon. Gay's in denial. Loudmouths on the shop floor. Thank's for listening.

Interesting to note, recruitment advert for assistant planner went live this afternoon, for of all places, montrose!!! The plot thickens. Seems that management want to pay off the mid level earners, leave the donkey work to the low paid. Thus try to maximise site profits (and their bonuses). Pay peanuts get monkeys, but after all inexperienced monkeys cannot dance to the organ grinders.

After these redundancies, half of the workforce in the work shop will be apprentices. Another great management decision.

Thier was only one smart person who knew exactly this was going to happen and he made a move by leaving and taking some of the best of NOV with him and that is Mr Pete Miller!!!!

I think most employees did see it coming but why didn't management that's the real question. Bad management has caused this problem but they get to keep their jobs so that's ok ???????????

I can see why folk are frustrated at individuals but the big issue isn't local management, it comes way further up the line.

Everyone was happy when times were good, and people were happy to jump ship from previous employments on the premise they would be better off at NOV. The facts are NOV's aggressive hiring policy right up to 18-24 months ago was the problem. The signs of a slow down were evident but they still proceeded to hire and charge customers a premium. Truth is now they find themselves in an industry where none of their customers are spending any money that isn't a priority or can wait. There were basically blank cheques being handed out in the boom but no more.

NOV were slow to respond to this and are now in the mess of a second round of redundancies, a brutal one by all accounts. NOV should have been more proactive with prices 12 months ago and weren't, it's now bitten them on the assand unfortunately leads to job losses. If no one seen this coming, you were either in denial, or blind.

Three young apprentices I can think of in particular that should be maybe be let go. young Connor is a good lad but he's a bit slow to pick things up sometimes. Saying that there's also some apprentices at Rig Solutions that will contribute a lot towards the work load. BL.

Some lads will be sat at home for months without work yet others have continuous work. So I think we know who are going to be made redundant.

Favouritism at its best.

I totally agree, how come there are different groups this time around from the last redundancies. Basically everyone they want to keep is in the safe group and the rest in the other. I think most aren't going to go without a fight.

Totally agree buddy. They say everyone is Scored fairly on a points system. The management simply make sure that the ones they want to keep get more points on there sheet than the ones they want to get rid of. What is fair about that????????? Agree those guys that get dumped should contest it.

Oh yes, it will always be the favourites that will be kept, the old pals act will always happen. Seen it last time and will be no different this time. Can see plenty tribunals happening this time around though. Corrupt as they come.

38 trainee service engineers went last year because of no work but NOV think it's ok too send 2 South African service engineers to work in the North Sea in January this year.

I thought there were laws to stop managers picking their mates/ favourites and saving them from redundancy. Obviously not at Nov they can do what the hell they like. I hope they've messed up and whoever has messed up goes.

Looks like they just make up the redundancy pools to suit themselves. You would think there would be employment laws against this

One of the guys got pulled of a I&C job in Korea who is in the amphion pool and was replaced with somebody who is a mate of the service supervisors. Tony Yuill and Jason Barklie are so far up themselves it's unbelievable, if service hands phone in for tech support it goes against them at appraisal time because they had to ask for advice ??????

Is that true about the South African trainee engineers ? When did this happen it's as if they haven't given lads jobs so they look like they've got less work than they actually have. Can they do that ?

I heard about the South African trainees doing what the engineers should have been allocated to do. Then they say there isn't any work for them, there isn't going to be if they are flying in trainees from South Africa to do jobs in the North Sea. I think the engineers need to look and think that's who's going to be doing your jobs in the future. I wish you all luck because with NOV you are going to need it.

South African trainee engineers doing engineers jobs then making the engineers redundant? If you're not out in these first cuts I think we know who will be doing all your jobs before long. Nov relocating to South Africa ???????

Before long the managers won't have anyone left to manage. If there is no work what are the managers actually doing all day?.

Managers still getting car and fuel allowance, all driving Audis and Mercs. NOV is becoming more and more top heavy. These managers achieve nothing more than amend paperwork and micro managing those below.

The prices they charge the customers is unbelievable compared to the wages the engineers get paid. If it wasn't for the engineers they wouldn't make any money.

Nice of the management to have stopped company cars. Never mind that, haven't you seen the prices of bananas and apples these days?

Someone mentioned earlier about bonus payments I think they might have actually meant the different rates engineers get paid for onshore and offshore. I think these are getting reduced so engineers will be getting paid rubbish money for going offshore while management are getting paid a lot more for what ? Are their wages getting reduced ?.

I noticed that about all the electrical engineers, last year they were in one main group rfe electrical controls and this year it's two different groups. It's weird because cyber base people are safe yet last year when everyone was in one group cyber base lads were made redundant. It looks like Nov aren't playing fair Shame on them. Good lads losing jobs purely because they didn't attend a 5 week cyber base course yet there are people who did the course but who have never worked in cyber base do these managers have a clue what they are doing or is it if your face fits your ok. Absolute disgrace.

To people taking the bonus thing personally, I don't think anyone on the shop floor is grudging the guys taking them, it's the whole scheme of getting a bonus in these hard times. Unarguably wrong.

Totally agree about the company are quite happy when they are making billions when the oil price is high, then when the sh-- hits the fan the same guys who made the billions are instantly dumped. So much for loyalty and looking after their staff. Some of the billions should have been put away for rainy days like this. Upper management at NOV montrose are totally unprofessional. That big idiot that is supposed to be the workshop manager is nothing but a disgrace. Every time he opens his mouth he makes a fool of himself. Just an idiot

Kurt you got it spot on about fritz. It would serve him right if he got dumped. Two faced backstabber has been slagging off guys behind their backs for years. Good luck getting another job looking like that, stuck in a 1970s timewarp

There are wasters in all departments of the company taking a wage and giving nothing back. Hopefully they will clear out the dross with this time. No doubt some good guys will go unfortunately but that is the sad fact of the way the industry is just now.

And must agree the the workshop manager is the biggest waste of space and drunken bum we employee!!!!!
