Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Did the Pittsburgh BU pay Morgan Freeman to narrate a last ditch pitch video for a board junket meeting?

I have been long gone from Chevron. I retired 4 years ago. A bunch of old Chevron employees got together last night. This board was one topic of discussion and then Morgan Freedman came up.

So Chevron knew they were tabling (nice word for closing) the Pittsburgh BU.

I find it very hard to believe Chevron did this video for a board visit when the plan was not to drill????? And no one in a leadership position held anyone accountable for this?

My Chevron is a shell of its former self. I read a lot of posts here. Chevron changed 10 years ago. Believe it or not we got things done and we were smart. It was a great place to work.

So AMBU is not drlling a single well at this point? I find that hard to believe. No capital budgt and they are keeping 500 people emplyed? If they are truly not drilling that BU will be gone before fall. Bank on it!

I am in AMBU. We have ZERO budget for 5 years. Do you really think they are keeping 500 people on payroll? Maybe 20? HilLcorp, EQT and Rice will do the NOJV when Chevron decides in 5 yrs to drill. My coworkers think we are ramping up next year. We are not. I love sitting around doing nothing and getting paid for the last several months. But the Corporate Welfare is ending. Most of the employees here can not get a job in O&G outside of Chevron. Only a handful can hit the open market outside of O&G. I am tied to O&G so I am screwed. D&C here is part of this ROM, Chevron is cherry picking the group. The rest are deadwood. Will be laid off shortly.

Every time I read posts about AMBU, it's all doom and gloom. We largely survived this round of layoffs, which is more that I can say for Midcon, GOM, and CBU. Have fun watching that Permian video while you are laid off at home. We'd love it if Chevron sold the place back to a responsible operator that doesn't hire 20 people to do 1 persons job. #TAFT

Highly doubtful that video will ever be uploaded to YouTube. It's locked away in a deep, dark cave...assuming it wasn't destroyed.

The Freeman video was real and the facts were just as expertly sculpted. AMBU senior leadership would stop at nothing to convince the Board they had turned things around. It was their life raft. It landed the BU VP his next rung on the corporate ladder, a job in Perth with all the attention and opportunity to catapult him as high as he wants to fly IF mega accidents can be avoided. Good for him I say. He's one of the better ones in my opinion and sadly there aren't many left in Chevron. So I'd cut the BU VP some slack on the Freeman video and stretching the truth given what he had to work with in such a short time. The reality is its going to take leaders like him to turn Chevron back into a place were hard core technical skills, accountability and results are the norm. A chevron the OP and other former employees can be proud of again. But it's a very, very daunting task. I wish them success.

Yes, the leaders at AMBU are all career Chevron rejects who bought and destroyed a company that was making a profit. The locals are good people, its the folks that came to PA and didn't listen on how Atlas was successful. Its a shame that they keep on spending money to lose money. I could careless what happens to the Chevron Leaders.. Its the employees that are the casualties. All over the country, good people lost their jobs because of the downfall of the oil and gas industry. If you are going to Blame someone, blame the leaders, they are the ones that made the bad decisions in AMBU.

The board did do a junket visit in the fall. I did not hear of Morgan Freedman narrating a video. I find that hard to believe quite frankly. Right before the visit Chevron announced the layoff of 7,000 employees. And then pay thousands if not hundreds of thousands to narrate a video has to be bunk.
