Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Do those selected already know?

I heard that Job offers will be extended to those selected (job owners will reach out them), on Wednesday. With that said, I'm wondering if that means; if you haven't received an offer by Wednesday, you can be certain that when you come to work on Thursday you'll be "left standing". I hate the unknown ... my fear is that all of those selected know already and those that don't know one way or the other are just fooling ourselves (myself) that there is hope.

@1ygb, 1sal is yanking your chain. No way are they that organized in this ESP process. Try scheduling you vacation on Monday, April 11th. If you are here and successful then you are good to go.

@GKsYnUV-1sal if that is true then I should be safe. Just 'scheduled' vacation in both May and July 2016 and SAP did not give an error, however, this is for time reporting and I really doubt that the system would already 'know' that you would no longer be with the company by then.

Can anyone confirm ?

1whi - LOL. Talent for seeking out free lunches in 1500? Business talent is non existent at Chevron.

managers are coached to walk around with smiling faces. But on Thursday they will be out of sight.

1nce, what a ridiculous comment. This is big company politics, not NBA free agency. Best wishes to all affected.

I call BS.

If you have talent you should be able to be placed, if you selected jobs appropriately.

If you have no talent and you selected appropriately, you could still find yourself a job.

If you have no talent and think you do and selected what you thought was appropriate...you might just be left standing.

Not official but if you haven't already been told it's not a good sign. You can walk around COV and look at the folks walking around with smiles on their faces and those with frowns, just saying.

Your boss knows by now. If good news is in your future they will signal affirmatively.

One way to check to see if you are out, book vacation days in May or June. If SAP shows an error. You are out.

The lucky people selected for jobs have not been told yet. If that were the case, many would have spilled the beans already. They will most likely be informed after the unlucky ones have been escorted out of the building. While they will be fortunate to later learn they were saved, management would like to savor the anxiety of everyone for as long as possible. That's the new Chevron Way.

I was laid off last year. I come to this site just to keep up with what's going on. But I must say, reading all the latest posts pertaining to the current lay offs has opened old wounds.

I've gone through all stages of denial, acceptance, etc, etc....

Today has been a particularly (extremely) hard day. I'm not at an age of being competitive or employable, so I'm taking it easy now days. But remembering how I was treated after giving Chevron so much of me has been hard today.

I remember our manager, after coming back from Sam Ramon, acting and saying how optimistic he/she felt, "everything looks like it's going to be ok from now on because there was soooo much collaboration yada yada"

Talk about building us up??!!

Just to find out at the end of the week that "sorry but, you've been left standing" ........ So much for "I feel optimistic" "everything is going to be ok".

Ugh...... Not the best feeling in the world, you know?

Re-living it all today.

Best of luck to you all. I hope your lives are not too affected.

Having gone through it last year, I can tell you what it was like then.... Not sure how similar it'll be this time.

If the announcements are supposed to be 'the week of the 7th' or something vague, then I can tell you for sure those selected ones are being told as we speak, via phone or email. As you (OP) stated, if you haven't heard by Wednesday, then yes, you pretty much should start packing.

Best of luck, and don't take it too hard.

I have so many job offers coming in, I'm overwhelmed. My good karma has prevailed. Good luck to everyone.

@kxu, In my humble opinion, nobody is safe. We received official news a few days ago from a Chevron spokesman that Chevron will be making cuts in our Downstream business unit. This BU is our cash cow right now, yet there will be more than a few layoffs taking place this week. So, I reiterate - nobody is safe.

Are the geophysicists and earth scientists safe or are they at risk as well? I am relatively new to the company and am not American.

All decisions on which individuals will be cut has been decided already. The final few were determined at least by Friday of last week. There is nothing more that can be done. No more bargaining or jockeying for position. The list of names are cemented in place. Later this week, you may take your "walk of shame" (not that it is your fault) to a corner office for your boss to tell you he's sorry, but...

Be prepared and go bravely. Best of luck to who stays and who goes.

O&M should be know on April 6th and Salary employees will be notified on the 7th on status of employment. Many have been told to meet at hotels and others have been told to drive personal vehicles instead of company.

Would say a large percentage "should" know by their status and the > PSG26 who support them. If you do not know, best of luck and God Bless.

Having gone through Alpha last year, I'll vouch that the uncertainty and waiting is the worst part of all this and something Chevron needn't put people through were it a more compassionate, better managed company that cares about its employees. It isn't. In Alpha ROM, those who got the jobs were the first notified with those not getting a position notified a day or so later.
