Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Letting go of Chevron

After 25 years with CVX, I was totally Chevronized, and my family too. Initially I felt betrayed and confused. Slowly I came to realize that CVX treated me quite well after all i.e. above average pay, good health and other benefits, international exposures, and etc. Honestly I do not believe CVX owes me anything since I always get my pay check on the dot. Yet they still throw in a nice farewell package, which I am grateful. I believe it is time for me to let go of CVX and move on, bye Chevron. Good luck and God bless.

I was with another Dutch/British O&G major for 17 years before I joined Chevron 10 years ago. Oh man, speaking about leadership, bean counter, old boys network, work/life balance, and the list goes on, I have never regretted about the switch (perhaps a bit lately). Well, I learned years ago that 'Nobody say the world is fair' and I sweared that I treated my 4 children equally (to our best), yet they still complained that we are not being fair most of the time. Sadly, life will be more miserable for those who live in hatred and complaints. Thanks OP, I also choose to move on and enjoy my limited remaining years.....

Well stated, OP You are absolutely correct. Chevron has been very good to everyone. They have some of the best severance and retirement packages offered in any organization. Many in many many forms of industry and walks of life will never see a pension nor a severance if they are let go(including me). In fact many in the real world think that pensions essentially no longer exist, are a thing of the past. It's a shame that we have some envious liberal entitled selfish greedy whiners within and coming in from outside to complain about what VP's and CEOs get paid. That could be said of any major successful corporation in the planet. I would suggest to those whiners that they simply get the skills, talent, connections, etc. to get that position as VP or CEO at their next company if they are so fantastic.

Mr. Watson only made 22 million in compensation for 2015. At what point is too much money enough. There were a lot of people in Houston who were let go on Thursday, not because of poor performance, because those with low rankings were dismissed earlier. All of the decisions that hurt Chevron were made by executives and managers. Gorgon has been a disaster and remains a money pitfall. Now news comes from Australia that there are issues with refrigeration and will cost approximately 500 million. What happened to the PSSR? Was the PSSR just signed off just to make the deadline? Hopefully, the downsize will help the company right the ship back to safer waters. However, if the same managers and executives are still in place ( which none were let go) changing out employees will not solve your problem.

Am 27 years with the company and feel the same. Pressed the EOI button as in my late early 60's and am getting the package. CVX not the best company but in no way the worst. Always treated me fairly and would recommend them as an employer. So as you say time to move on and all the best to CVX and my fellow workers.
