Pretty quiet on the message board today. This is probably the first layoff for most of the people who were cut on Thursday. This is the 2nd wave, the first being last fall. There is a 3rd planned for later this year. Not everyone let go has 30 plus years at Chevron. Trust me, I know that all the talk about how this is such a great opportunity for you, or you will make it through this just fine, etc, etc, is not that helpful. Talk is cheap. The reality is that entire industry is in recession and many divorces and home foreclosures will happen. I know because it happened to me and others I know in previous downturns. I do not have an answer. Just keep your wits about you and don't do anything stupid. This is not your fault. Your oil field brethren at BP will have 500 cuts here in Houston next month. This whole situation makes me sick. FYI, I was also cut. I will never return to the oil industry. It is just too unstable. My best wishes and good fortune to all.

I'm not the one calling people racists. I don't have a racism radar turned on 24/7 always looking for something or someone to call racist. The Grand Plan is to lay off 95% of the oil industry people within 2-3 years, it means the western oil industry, this is not including national oil companies. There is no need anymore to have the western style Giants and Independents in the new world, because there is no oil available for them to explore and develop.

You are looking at it the wrong way. When someone calls out the cry babies that complain about reverse discrimination, it doesn't mean they believe only one form of discrimination exists. That is not the point here. The point is that playing the race card is lame, regardless of what your skin color is. Complaining about about being discriminated because you are white, is not any better than a black person doing the same. The concept is the same, it's making excuses instead of facing reality, and it says alot about your character and credibility.
And what makes it worse, is that when these cry babies get called out on it, all they do is continue to make even more excuses, and some even start making assumptions about the other person's skin color or political affiliations. It's not even about any of that, not even close. Have some f---ing pride.

I expected it to be quiet in this message board after Thursday and Friday, but thought it would pick up by Saturday. It hasn't. I suppose the shock of the layoff has taken many by surprise. They are too shell shocked or disappointed to be here drowning their sorrows, cursing the company and lamenting their fate. But don't worry. It takes more time for some, but the rage and confusion will manifest itself here pretty soon. I'll give everyone a reprieve for now. Let the bitching, cursing, crying and blaming start up again on Monday.
