Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I still hear ITC - CIO Bill and the GM's still have no clue how to run an IT organization. I heard Bill is claiming he has a Harvard MBA.

Took me 18 months to get my MBA (not from Harvard) so what did Louie do - buy Bill a Harvard MBA to get the VP's to give him the clone job for Louie?

So glad I am gone and have a new IT career away from this folks. Never say Lynn, Amy, Green (Oh my god) as leaders, such a joke.

I feel sorry for you guys still in IT at Chevron. maybe someday that will actually hire some outside IT Leaders because the Louie clones are clueless. Check out LinkedIn.......

GVd9sy4-9udd I disagree. I see what your idol did in ETC, and can't believe they moved him into a position where he can fail again. If what he did was so great, why did they create UWT to take over the work his group should have been doing?

ITC spends too much hours creating beautiful powerpoint presentations that no one really cares about. Anyways, going back to IT leaders in Chevron. The one I respected the most is Mr. Jim Green. He is passionate about his job, has the technical chops to talk with the techie folks, got a good grip on the needs within DS&C, and understands the value proposition of how IT can add to the businesses. I am not with Chevron anymore, but the one person that comes to mind of being a leader was him. The IT job market is healthy in the Bay Area so do not fear of leaving a poorly run IT shop. Employers actually value your corporate experiences.

GVd9sy4-3axt if you still work at Chevron, you should care. Louie wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on his "consultants". He didn't know what he was doing, so he kept bringing in inept consultants from places like Accenture, etc. Looking at what is going on, his successor is doing the same thing. The money wasted on IT could have been used better on revenue producing endeavors, or better still it could have been used on cleaning up all the bad data, and putting the BU's in a better position to work on real work.

All this bitching, whining and moaning about the IT group is great. No one outside of IT even gives a crap. If you were any good at IT you wouldn't be stuck working at Chevron in the first place.

I was a contractor in IT for the last 20 years. I recently left when they asked me to drop my rate to one less than I can get elsewhere. (I am not one of the "preferred/protected" companies.) I have seen IT at Chevron continue to erode over the past 5 or 6 years. It is my opinion they could still cut 10-20% in ITC. The erosion started when you put people in charge of the IT project organization, who think you run an IT project the same way you run a PRC capital project. IT use to have a great set of tools, training, and experts on running an IT project. Now you have an organization that thinks you can run an IT project, using PRC tools, even though IT project management is a disciple in itself. (Agile, Waterfall, etc. methodologies.) Also, letting each BU decide how they will implement a solution adds significant overhead. I have seen too many solutions dumped on a BU with no plan on how to do data conversion.

I hope they can get themselves fixed. (Bring in some outside management and get away from all this inbreeding of inept IT managers.)

Oh please, anyone that thinks Bill knows what he is doing is so messed up. You probably have never worked for really strong leaders. Jim Green, Bill, Amy sucked up to get their jobs, they did not earn them nor do they have the education or knowledge to be there.

Just like Louie, bill has his little following. That is why Chevron is not the place I would allow my CS kids to ever go to work. This is not the fair minded leadership selection process I want my kids to go to work in. We know it is bad so discourage them for ever going to Chevron.

Sorry guys , ITC is not well managed and has not been since Brenda Mize left. She knew how to run an IT shop.

I was recently an IT supervisor at Chevron but left on my own to seek other opportunities. Having had a chance to work with a handful of the names listed, some are good, others not so much. I will say I really enjoyed working with Green - one of the few technical leaders. I will also say that the culture is tough to shift. Many long-term mid level managers that will do anything to block needed change.

This is spot on. Notice that once Louie was let go, he has not been hired anywhere else as a CIO.

I personally know Bill. I think he knows what he is doing but do mind he is dealing with a pretty fu*cked up company DNA. Is hard to fire all incompetent managers at one time. But I see good signs from him.

And most of you don't appreciate it but whilst the metro's and others are getting slaughtered ITC is not in such a bad shape. He is pretty good at protecting the people. Think big picture :-)

It's OK to be a butthurt loser piece of deadwood on the street without a job, dear! You go ahead and get it all out of your system now, baby.
