Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

We are not deadwood!!

I would just like to tell the people who are involved in ESP that you are not deadwood, as some sick individuals on this site say. We are in the midst of an oil price crisis and cuts need to be made. This is not our fault, and those who seek to increase our pain and anxiety are doing so only to make themselves feel better at our expense.

I am in scope, and I am afraid for my future, but I refuse to accept the notion that I am in this position due to lack of ability or production in the workplace. This action is simply a result of economics, and while my spending may have to change, I will not change who I am as a person.

I wish you all the very best of luck during this difficult time.

You ARE deadwood, face reality. It'll be easier in the long run.

I am a former CVX employee that was laid off during the 2010 "Accelerate Downstream" cost cutting. As a lifelong refining person it took a long time to find another job, and was extremely stressful for me and the family.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone at Chevron, I am sorry for the predicament that the Oil Majors are now facing, but that's life in the commodities world. And despite what Mr. Watson and OPEC may think - NO ONE can control commodities pricing.

Being someone who has left Chevron well over a year ago, before the downturn, I can tell you that at Chevron "deadwood" is a completely political issue. The entire ESP, PMP, ROM process is completely dependent on the personality of your supervisor and is extremely discriminatory. If you have a strong supervisor willing to argue for you and extol your virtues and ignore the fact that your are older or a single parent or a woman or whatever, you are fine, otherwise you are screwed. Chevron's ranking process is SERIOUSLY flawed. If I were still there, I might pursue legal action to get it eliminated. But, I am thankfully at a much better company now.

I am so happy for you that you do not consider yourself dead wood. I, on the other hand, embrace my woodiness and am proud of my dead wood status. I like to live in my own truth. I consider myself as having come out of the woodpile and hope to join my fellow deadwood brethren on the chopping block and eventually in the fireplace to heat up the home of someone more worthy, like an entitled millennial Chevroid who deserves to get a paycheck and play candy crush all day.

Good for you, OP. The deadwood posters are the typical example of the real Chevron employees who come slithering out of the woodwork on here rather than too your face in the office environment. People have lost jobs because of work place bigotry and harassment that HR felt they had too pay for, poor or personal problem based supervisors etc and it has nothing to do with their performance.

Of course your not. And as far as personal accountability goes most do not have to have any. The system and supervision alone dictates success. Individuals have very little to do with it! Hence why Chevron is in an emergency even compared to other companies. It is traumatic to get layed off. It is traumatic to work in a dysfunctional company......you do understand it does not matter qualifications or experience or results here. So people's opinion or the companies decision does not matter. In the fall most of the competent people were let go???? Do not get into questioning yourself. You create your own reality....negative thoughts will make that shit became reality.

I agree you are not dead wood. I empathize with you regarding your feelings of being considered dead wood. The folks that continuously post those statements are bullies executing their Chevron Way behaviors. CVX is in the process or terminating 40% of the employees in the GOMBU. Many of those people are good employees that are being targeted for termination just because they are not in the friends and family program.

I am not in scope for the ESP, but I am looking for a job outside of CVX because of the process being executed at CVX.

Keep your chin up and have confidence in yourself. Just because CVX does not want you as an employee I believe other companies will appreciate your value.
