VCIP Checks Not Cashable

So with all of the borrowing to make payroll, why did COP send VCIP checks that cannot be cashed (must be deposited)? Now I have to wait for the funds hold (not balance waived because of COP's questionable financials) to expire...

Mine is safely tucked away in my savings account. Thankful for that last COP check and 60 weeks of severance besides. Bless that little EOI email we received all those months back. Life is sweet.

This is so lame. Deposit the damn thing like you did your paycheck. This has nothing to do with CoP and everything to do with how you run YOUR finances. Oh, dang... you were in finance weren't you?

My $8300 check had to be deposited.

Do you or the OP have an account with Chase? I know of no bank that will cash a check unless you have an account with them (and usually you have to have enough funds in the account to cover the check in case it bounces). So, it comes as no surprise that you were unable to cash a check.

Your bank may use your deposited funds to offset the risk of the COP check bouncing, but the first poster is correct that Chase (JP Morgan Chase) will not cash this check.

The ability to cash a check vs. deposit a check is a reflection of the bank account holder and not the check. I can cash checks for up to $5000 if I have at least $5000 in the bank; otherwise, I can cash checks for up to $1500 with zero dollars in the bank. And as a point of reference I drove through the teller last week and cashed the check from ConocoPhillips without issue.

Cheap bastards want to hold on to every bit of interest that they can...so that Cryin Ryan can claim it as a management strategy! But they did it for your protection...
