Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How does one know if they are "Deadwood"?

If you listen to some here, simply being in scope means that you are deadwood, but I think it takes a poor thought process to come to that conclusion.

Are you exempt from being deadwood if you are rated a 1? How about a +2?

Perhaps we will not know if we are deadwood until the job notifications come out. Of course there are those who will say that a lot of live wood was killed to save the dead. It all depends on which side you fall on.

Chevron is keeping all deadwood because eventually it will turn into fossil fuels.

Harvesting firewood is probably more profitable than drilling shale wells at this point in time.

Deadwood Energy may be viable company we can spinoff. We have a lot of fire wood and kindling to last a while.

I guess this is the Deadwood and A--holes thread now. Either way, welcome to the forum, whatever you want to be, Mr. A-hole or childish name-caller, whatever you wish.

Sorry @$$hole, but I don't particularly like the connotation of the work "deadwood". I don't call myself that nor take kindly to anyone calling me that. The term, as you say, is just an old term to describe someone that has been or is about to be laid off. Well, I don't take it that way. To me its derogatory and an insult. Don't call me deadwood even if I get laid off by Chevron just for economic reasons. If you think it's already, you are an @$$.

What I like about this thread is that the dead wood all assembles here when they read the title of the thread. They have posted below. I am personally Proud to be an honorary card-carrying member of the petrified forest. No shame here. I fit right in at Chevron with the rest of the Dead Wood, those people who posted below. Greetings my fellow useless Pine-Knots! The tree has been leaning for some time now, about to fall over and I am just one miserable dead branch waiting to be cut, so I checked the box. The sooner the better. I am carrying a bunch of dead leaves( my subordinates) with me and they're getting heavy, they have been laying on my leg(lower branch) for quite some time. It's getting old, like me.

Good job yzp knows all the ins and outs of everyone's personal experiences so he doesn't look like a completely entitled rear end by arrogantly posting something without having the first freakin clue. Must be the Chevron Way. Criticize others for assuming something by assuming something on these boards. No wonder this company is in crisis if he represents the typical employee.

All you guys need to make up excuses now for not being properly called Deadwood. How cute. Like the first one, about a hostile person previously fired is deadwood. Ignorant and false. Or the last victimized poor sad individual who thinks everyone else is bad, bigoted, entitled and a bully but they are just so great as they spew that same very hatred and vitriol. Well, I have some news for you children, it's just a term which has been used for years, means nothing but people getting laid off. "Cleaning out the deadwood" is a phrase that has been used for layoffs since all you little kiddies were in your diapers. You can't change it, and have no affect on it with your cute little progressive, "I'm gonna change what the word "is" is" attitudes. To start with, if you have a problem with the term, that's the first indicator.

Get over yourselves.

If you worked at Chevron and had a difficult time fitting in with the office politics, bullying, harassment, childish double standards and bigoted attitudes, then you are deadwood at the company and got let go for not tolerating it. However, it also means you can go out and find a good job with a respectful company anywhere within days of your end date and fit straight in - as it isn't Chevron.

We work at Chevron, that dumbs us down. Very few employees get results from top to bottom. We all know we are not working at potentional. Remember the last company you worked for before Chevron? As bad as it was, more got done. Chevron has not executed any project in the last 5 years. Do you think systemic failures are normal? Everyone just sort of hangs out, most are in jobs that they do not have a background for, no expectations, no accountability. This is all normal now. We are the fish Chevron is the water. One fish asks the other fish, Hows the water? The other fish says "What water?" This Company is a Harvard Business Case on Deadwood.

The people that are hostile posting on this board were fired or let go years ago. They still hold a grudge because they are the real "deadwood". It is unfortunate that oil is at 34 a barrel and gas is under 2. If you are laid off in ESP or laid off in alpha you are not deadwood, you are a valuable employee that under the current environment lost the game of musical chairs.
