Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How do you find out if a job has a stone cold lock incumbent?

The title says it all. I see a job that screams my name, but if there is a perfect candidate already in it, there is no reason to post for it. I don't know anyone who works in Midland to call and ask.

If there are 2 seats available, do you think it is more likely that one of them will actually be open?

I guess if you have contacts at these sites you could call up and ask. But I wonder why they would prefer someone from a different location strongly over the incumbent to relocate that person. Of course you have a few people planning to exit using EOI and that could create some oppotunities.

I do not think it would be a good idea to put that information on this site, given the caliber of people who seem to frequent it. You never know what crap they would try to stir.

It is wonderful that a VP would have such a conversation with you. It is too bad that according to you, all returning expats will be let go and US jobs will be filled by lesser qualified people just to save a few bucks on a U-Haul van.

I have no idea if you are right or wrong, but I have a feeling it is the latter.

I am one of those women and I like my tops as low cut as possible but that's my own preference, I don't really care what anyone thinks. However, if I wore them any lower my nips would show, I think they do already a little bit . My supervisor doesn't seem to mind so I guess it's OK. He likes to hang around my cube a lot. I get job offers almost every week so I don't really care whether I'm in scope for this ROM, the next one or whenever. I work hard on my 5'-6" 140 lbs of rock hard muscle, butt, legs and abs so I feel I can show off all my hard work if I want to be a little slutty on certain days. I would never act on it except for this one cute guy. I service his needs at times but I have to bring an extra blouse for those days since he messes all over it, I would never wear that soaked thing back to my cube on my huge DD jugs. It would look too obvious and the girls would show!. He puts out gallons haha! I'm glad we have this site where I can release, just like he does all over me HA! Thanks for reading

I know there are several of us old Grey Beards that are EOI but forced to go thru the motions and apply for our positions. I think you have a shot its time for me to move over and let someone else have this slot.

Good Luck to all!

If you are a '1' you might displace an incumbent. If not, no chance. All job owners make a short list of 5. The incumbent is usually #1 on the list. Usually everyone on the short list is known personally by job owner. The purpose of ESP is to make it look like you have a chance. That way when a ton of early career & expats are let go, the wont win a discrimination lawsuit without a major effort and cost.

Most of the jobs posted are already filled. Lots of the 'trashy women" engineers are so confident of their jobs it makes my head spin. Oh some of them have started wearing tighter tops haven't you noticed. If you are male and in Covington start packing.

My manager whom I kissed ass for the last 8 years told me that my position is safe. We went to fishing and golfing once a month. He wanted to keep me continue in the job. However, he received order to list my job in the ESP or meet a certain quota. He told me I need not worry as I will still get my job. So I trusted him. I am the one work worked my ass off to make my boss look good. I expect he returns the favor.

By hiring manager I mean the person listed in the tool as owning the job. Usually that is the person the job reports to, but not always. But yes, you should also talk to your ROM rep about every position you want to apply for and make sure they agree that you are a good fit.

Thanks for your comment @GieiJYO-wgy. Sorry to be so dense, but are you suggesting that I speak to the person who will be representing me in the ROM, or the person who owns the job that I might apply for?

@GieiJYO-znr. If you are right, there is no hope, and I refuse to believe that there is no hope. If that works for you, great Go with it. I choose to believe that there is a position for me, until such time as someone officially tells me that I am not yet placed. Then I will believe that I will find something until I am left standing. Only then will I give up and say that my 3 decade Chevron career is over.

Check to see if the incumbent is the brother-in-law or nephew of a Chevron middle-manager. If so, you know you are not going to get the job.

Setup time this week with the hiring manager and ask. Tell that person very clearly why you think the posting is screaming your name. Listen to the answer and read between the lines to determine if there is already a strong incumbent.

If you see the job in the CTO then it's open. Although, I haven't been able to get in to the tool. From what I've gathered, incumbents are going to be highly favored especially against relocating a replacement.
