Signs of store closure, truth to rumours?

HI, I work inside a leased Sears in an A mall in the northeast. I have been there over 20 years. An ex employee told me he spoke to one of the mall security officers, a friend of his, and was told that there was a mall meeting about Sears closing. My friend also knows 2 people that work for a local contractor who does commercial jobs, and they told him they got the contract to remodel the sears and that it was closing. I reached out through facebook to Simon Mall, they denied any plans to close sears. I reached out to Sears and they said talk to your store manager about this. Well I gather they cant tell me until its officially announced, so didnt know what to think. So I went to the store manager, and she said she doesnt know anything, and was almost crying, worrying about her position.

Do the store managers really not know ahead of employees? I know we have to get 60 days notice, but so far no official announcement. I really want to know, so I can plan my future and my co-workers can plan theirs. I tried looking at my local building planning website but they dont post anything.

Meanwhile it looks like we still get new merchandise arriving.

Too Wildcat Country: I'm surprised they still have an Optical Dept. In my area all Optical, Hearing Aid and Portrait Studios were closed years ago in both Sears and Kmart's.

I don't have access to the vendor portal. I work at the optical department. Can anyone be so kind to check for sears peabody, Saugus MA. Both sears. If you think you would get in trouble then please don't. Thank you everyone. This is so frustrating.

My opinion for what it's worth.... (hey its free)is that all of management's efforts is analagous to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The ship is going down, no stopping the inevitable. I do think they will fold the tent on their biggest loser (K-mart) first. Which will leave a stripped down Sears to flounder a little while longer. Their rate of cash burn is horrendous. They don't have enough assets to keep selling to fuel the cash shortfall.

Karen. More than likely the store manager or anyone in the store does not know. Sometimes I knew when a store was closing before the manager did.

Well they could be downsizing. Not sure if you saw what they are doing in the Staten Island mall or Freehold mall but the Freehold mall is condensed to one level and the Staten Island mall will be a quarter of a two story anchor unit... half the size of a Kohls is what the mall supervision I know said. Eddie seems to think downsizing is the answer which it may as well be. Be prepared for a downsize and NO they will not share any plans until construction starts and the writing is on the wall it's very very secretive!!! Good luck and start looking now get ahead of this... Most people don't and keep false hope

Karen. Start looking for a job. I was let go Friday 3/4/2016 on my 38yr anniversary, 16 yrs as an auto mechanic and 22 yrs as a QMT (Building Maintenance). I started with Sears right out of high school. I received 8 weeks of severance and the 6 weeks I had saved in my vacation bank. We were recently told we saved the company a 100 million in energy savings. We have not had a pay raise in over 6 yrs and our mileage was cut twice in less than a year. I had not had a raise in over 6yrs and I stuck with Sears. I guess this is the thanks I get. I was told it was due to company cutbacks. There are other QMT's that were also let go. I have also found out that there are cuts in the Sears and Kmart stores. People that have been there along time and stuck it out through thick and thin. Anybody that works in a Kmart store can login on the sign machine and see which Sears and Kmart's are closing. Click on the Kmart icon and look for the words Vendor Portal. Click on the words Vendor Portal and login and you can see all the Sears and Kmart stores that have closed, are going to close and when they will close. I used to check it daily until my job was eliminated 3/4/2016 on my 38yr anniversary.
