Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Why does Schlumberger always outperform Halliburton in everything they do?

Give me one good reason why I should invest in Halliburton or I put my $1 billion into big blue

I can speak about India. SLB recruits the best and brightest from the best colleges (IIT). Pays them handsomely and makes them undergo rigorous training. Its a move up or move out structure in SLB which brings out the best in the already talented staff.

HAL recruits from shabby places and the whole company is made up of crappy people who have moved up by politics. Pay is half/less than half of what SLB pays in India. The ex-country manager didn't have a single day of field experience or requisite degrees. He moved up because his brother was already working at mid management in HAL US. This disease will never be cured since idiots at the top will always recruit and keep idiots and morons below them to feed their ego.

SLB does not have the best. I am sorry but this is a huge misconception. We beat the hell out of them everyday and believe me they are mortal. The limit seems to be how aggressive we actually want to be with being a leader. We are a fast following company which means we let the leader make the investment in developing new markets and we come behind them and undercut. We are more profitable because we don't have to develop market.

Also, in the development areas they probably out number us easily by 10:1 but we still ride the hell out them with technology.

Why does SLB outperform HAL? What a simple question. Doesn't take a college degree to figure that out...er...uh...well...actually it might...

SLB invest in technology. I am an electrical engineer and was a Halliburton logger, HAL just did not put their brightest in the design team.

Actually, Schlumberger does not "always" outperform HAL. For example, in 2015 Baroid outperformed the market, gaining revenue and marketshare relative to activity. Most SLB divisions did not. I guess it depends on how you define "outperform".

Schlumberger are so good a company I wish I could get a job with them. How easy is it to get started with them? I have 10 years experience in Halliburton but don't have a degree. I am real smart though and always get good job reviews

Schlumberger does NOT have Dave

its because they have a great recruitment system in SLB and they employ the brightest people from the worlds best universities. Halliburton like to employ people off the street and put them to work in the field and make them work up the chain of command which is great for experience but terrible in terms of academic ability and working out business problems. SLB will take a risk with younger people who are also cheaper and basically this is the main reason for the difference or at least thats what I read from an analyst review of the industry. I work for Baker and we are in the middle of these two
