I know at the start of the layoffs it was going wildly inconsistent. A person I know got something like 1 week/year(believe 30+ years if you count the time his companies were acquired, but 20+ with WFT itself), a few months later people in the same positions were getting 2-3 weeks/year(again 20+ years) in the same province. Non-direct field positions(one of the positions that was changed weekly if they were office staff or field staff), so no bonuses to calculate in. Most of the permanent field layoffs that I know of up in Canada happened during the 59 day layoffs(they are allowed to lay guys off for 59 days without having to pay them, if they are laid off for 60 days they must be given severance, so that was part of the cost cutting up here as well).
I don't know of many engineers that were laid off in my time with WFT, 90% of the engineers that I know left willingly had saved their money to start businesses in other provinces, or used the savings to buy their houses in other provinces outright when they moved to a new better job.
Was that for all employees being laid off? Did years of service matter at all? What about job? Did this apply to field hands only or to professional positions as well? It seems like what the company decides in Canada trickles down to the USA, so we would really like to know what is going on up North. Additionally, sorry to hear that things are not going well, and I hope that everyone's family manages.
Canada, Alberta.
8 weeks pay for 10 or more years
What country?
Sounds like the purse is getting lighter so they're dishing out less.
