Thread regarding Sears layoffs

good memories

I wish some would post some good memory stories...it won't change anything....but it would make me smile to read them. I over hear some at work sometime. I've got less than 20 years. I work with some fine folks(what's left) and I love the stories. Mostly they just talk to others that remember, though.

One of my awesome co-workers rigged mine with an old Sony display speaker. So everytime I opened it, it would sing a little tune! Customers even enjoyed it. haha

Hey, Remember the Paint Department? I remember, the paint department being jammed, Friday's and Saturday's. 4 or 5 employees, running their asss off, all day, even sending customers to hardware, to be rung out. LOL, even some "Staff" members (remember those?), jumping in to help. Yea, those where the good old days, the days when Sears made money. Don't laugh but, I even remember them bring in lunch from one of the pizza shops, for the employees. Yup, the "good-old-days" when Sears made money and took care of their employees. Lesson learned????

Remember the mornings when I'd unlock the doors and there would be a crowd there to shop in Sears rather than pass through to get to the Mall.

Storewide meetings in departments with crowds of employees, and "Sunday Employee Night Sale" invitations that were actually exclusive to the general public, and close to standing room only.

I got out right after Christmas. I had 39 years in. Started at Kresges right out of high school. Hated to go, but it was getting too hostile. I made the right choice, I believe.

Or we don't have that in the store, but we can order it for you and have it shipped to your home in a day or two. Unless it is an appliance then we will ship it to you in about a month and hope it is not damaged because we use third party vendors for delivery.

In the old days it was fantastic! Remember the birthday and anniversary breakfasts, the Christmas parties, and the days when we had more employees in one dept. than you do now in the whole store! The days when you could leave at the end of the day with a tremendous feeling of pride and satisfaction at a job well done. I'm truly sorry most of you will never get to experience that here.

Yes 39 years!! It was so much like a family. Still see friends from then and have made some amazing friends now but I am encouraging them to reach for their dreams even if it limits my time with them. I want the best for them more than my enjoyment being with them. So sad used to be a place you could retire from! No more!! For all the old timers remember bulliten 0277???!
