The high state taxes in California is no big secret, why the detailed estimate and focus on Bakersfield? I would rather be there than Los Angeles any day.

The Spine Center is down the road from the office. There are a few candidates for spinal implantation, you can join them.

The BU is very anal fixated about processes. If you are inclined that way, it will be up your alley.

Bakersfield has a brown haze in winter and it is in the high 30s. The smell of cow dung is prevalent year-round. Crime is high. It is a haven for outlaw bikers, too malicious to be in the Hell's Angeles.

Chevron pays well. You will be with your own kind. The best restaurant is Red Lobster. Gotta be proud.

My boyfiend told me this...... Most people developed asthma after a couple of years moving in Bakersfield, especially the kids who are most venerable. You also better live in a 3 storied building as any time the earthen Isabella dam may fail and the whole of Bakersfield will be covered in 20 foot of water. O ooh. .. you also better prepare to pay extra $500 in the earthquake insurance with $10000 deductible. Also, prepare to take a few hours of Spanish class, it will help.

@Guq4Gy1-1ejp, No mention of the proximity to the wine country nor the most beautiful coastline on the continent? Well, better yet, keep that a secret. - I'm cool!

@Guq4Gy1-vli, you forgot:

"Double, double toil and trouble,

Fire burn, and cauldron bubble."

If you choose to quote Shakepeare's Macbeth, please do so properly and give credit.

Sounds like a bad place to visit, much less to live there.

I'll fix some of those Bakersfield misconceptions.

The tax rate is actually higher than 6%. It's the highest in the country.

6% on taxable income between $29,373 and $40,773.

8% on taxable income between $40,774 and $51,530.

9.3% on taxable income between $51,531 and $263,222.

10.3% on taxable income between $263,223 and 315,866.

11.3% on taxable income between $315,867 and $526,443.

12.3% on taxable income of $526,444 and above.

The heat is not that bad. It fluctuates year to year. Sometimes it can be mild in June, with zero days in the 100s. July and August are the hot months, but it is rare for temps to be over 110. We usually get about 20 to 30 days over 100 (mostly in the low 100s). September can be nice with temps in the 80s. Winter lasts from November to February. Some years November and February are warm in the 60s and 70s. Overall, the climate is not that bad.

I've never heard of someone dying from Valley Fever, but it is something worth Googling. It is something to consider before moving here.

Air quality is terrible. Yes, worst in the country. Although it is from farm dust and not pollution like Bejing.

Dust storms? Perhaps two a year.

Quality of life? Pretty good. 350,000 people. So there is anything you need. Crime is higher than average (my assumption). Good place to raise a family. Not much of a night life for young people. Conservative community (farming).

Rain? Very little. About 5 to 7 inches a year. Zero snow. Rare to have a high below freezing.

Sunshine? Quit a bit from March 1st to November 1st. Great place to play golf.

Location? 2 hours from the ocean, mountains, or desert. 2 hour drive to LA. 5 hours to SF.

Is Bakersfield the BU where they have to put stupid traffic cones on the hoods of their trucks? Sorry, not a Chevron employee but a friend of mind contracted with them years ago and laughed about the cones. Sounded weird to me, I guess I don't get it.

In the poison'd entrails throw.

Toad, that under cold stone,

Days and nights has thirty-one;

Swelter'd venom sleeping got,

Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!

Here is the fact for Bakersfield in case you are not aware:

-- the second worst air district in US

-- typical summer temperatures are 110 to 115 degree lasting from 15 to 30 days

-- nighttime summer temperatures are around 70 to 80

-- the famous Valley fever when you breath in the spores from the dust storm. A slow and painful death. Death rate is 3 to 5%.

-- frequent dust storm when the wind blow from the Sierra mountain

-- you better be well verse with all the Chevron processes e.g. lean sigma, Safety processes. Because this is where the SJVBU is famous for.

-- 6 % California State income tax

Good luck.
