Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Anyone work in midland??

Do you currently work in Midland? if so, can you tell me how the feeling is there for jobs? If a person already has a job, is there high confidence that they will keep it, or do you get the feeling that the company will really look for the "Best" candidate, no matter who it may be?

I am asking this as a person who has posted for Midland jobs, but wonder if they are locked up by incumbents.

In our area jobs were "open" in the ROM but every one of them went to the encumbent. My manager said don't even bother to apply to the "open" job, the person who is in the job has it "locked up," and that was correct, the chosen few, the encumbents, all kept their jobs.

@3sxg,

Best of luck to you in your retirement, and I hope that you are vacating one of the jobs that I put in for. It would be great to think that there is an actual vacancy, and not just a paper position.

It has indeed been referred to as "Middle Earth" that is a somewhat accurate description, It's not the Big City life for sure. However it has been a great place to live and raise a family.

It's large enough to find whatever you need in the way of goods or services, decent entertainment options good hospitals and schools, the airport is large enough to give you lots of escape options and small enough to not be a major hassle when you get on a plane . I have lived here for the major part of my life but I will be selling my house and moving when I retire (Hopefully after this ESP). I am ready to be a little closer to Lakes,Trees, and grandchildren.

Best of luck to all.

I've never been to Midland. My impression has always been that it was also known as "Middle Earth".

Overall midland is a good place to work, and Chevron has been good to me however I am really looking forward to life after work. Midland will take a lot of cuts I have also heard the 35% number so there will be a lot of local competition for any openings I think.

Contractors are already being reduced and Non Exempt are going through a selection Reduction process at the same time as the ESP, Some FMT,s in the area are up for divestiture. There are a lot of moving parts so it is hard to tell how many if any positions will be open if any.

Good luck to all. I have already started cleaning out my office

Honestly it varies. In many cases the strongest persons were chosen in the LSP. As one would expect and as the process was supposed to work. But we all know that was not always the case either. Some favorites and good old boy selections likely got casted as well. The open spots, and this also can vary as most understand, are frequently being lined up for the next strongest local candidates. Money is tight in the BU and so relocation funds are minimal. If you are a superstar in your discipline, highly skilled, well educated and consistent strong performer, or, dare I say, well connected you do have the opportunity to unseat a local. The cuts are pretty deep here in MCBU +/- 35% but I feel that quite a few spots will be left open for employees from other BUs. I certainly hope, and I repeat hope, that leadership truly uses this opportunity to build the most capable teams possible from the available talent pool. But I suppose one can only hope.

I agree, this is an obvious culture difference between Houston and midland. #texaco

I'm in midland. Lots of clowns here. Also many people in roles without degrees but who have significant experience.....so interpret that as you will. also it's really more texaco than chevron. Texaco friends and family never left or moved on and are protecting each other.

i would bet there are many jobs filled in midland by expats. Where else would you want your high performing expats who don't have jobs?

Jeez, I wish I could say what jobs I posted for, so I could find out if I have one of them.
