Chevron Education Assistance for ROM/ESP folks

Has anyone taken advantage of the Chevron Education Assistance for folks who were affected by the ROM/ESP ?

Apparently they will pay up to 75% of tuition.

Is there a time limit to apply ? what kind of programs qualify ?

I would proceed with caution, especially if you have to pay then seek reimbursement. But, if you can get the actual written policy from Chevron and print the terms and conditions, I'd take advantage of the program. Just be sure to understand any possible limitations on what will or won't be repaid to you.

I wouldn't trust them to pay up either just from the hell I've gone thru trying to get my cobra coverage straightened out. This whole business of "pay and we'll reimburse you" is for the birds. I'm still fighting to get some of the medical expenses reimburse that I had to pay for while I waited for someone to address an envelope to me and put the cobra packet in it. I could see then saying "oh sorry, we don't cover classes taken on Mondays or Wednesdays."

Sorry, but I wouldn't trust chevron to reimburse me. I can see them coming up with some disqualifying factor and then I'd be screwed.

Do you still qualify for education reimbursement if you submit expenses prior to June separation date but you are home at the house because of WARN act?

@-5dbp, Oh dear, I had to go far but found the post that you disliked. So you are a dependent parasite liberal, a "don't ask what you can do for your company or govt. but what they can do for you", type of chap, aren't ya? Mommies boy, spoon-fed, "Food is a natural born right", "Healthcare is a natural born right" and every other luxury that didn't even exist before the 20th century suddenly becomes a "natural born right" simply because others can afford such luxuries so those who cannot afford them should get them for free at the expense of those who actually work for their compensation.

God Bless you sweet child. Maybe you will find someone somewhere who will take care of you and provide you with those things that you cannot, don't care to, or are too lazy to provide for yourself.

Less return for your eduction is the PhD. That is Phony Degrees.

@-3obm, The post from -2kbt was particularly about "additional degrees" If you do not have one, by all means do seek one with all of your heart and I would recommend a STEM field, as I'm sure you are already considering, being on the Chevron layoffs site. I agree with the post about the "additional degrees". I have a couple. There are only a few which will actually benefit anyone but yourself and your own personal goals, achievement, satisfaction, and search for knowledge. The salary benefits of additional degrees have a diminishing return. The people making the least for their amount of education in industry, on average, typically are the PhD's.

@H12pgxk-2kbt you make a valid point but what you fail to realize is that the system is now designed to require a degree to even be considered for employment at large corporations like Chevron. While a degree may not teach practical skills needed for a job, companies still place a value on them. And let's face it, universities are a business of their own and without the assistance from corporations requiring their services they would fail to exist. So your bashing of individuals seeking degrees for employment is not valid since this is now what the system encourages people to do. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who was recently laid off from a corporate job. What would you do? Attempt to add value to yourself or accept failure and take a job with a menial wage despite all of your efforts, time, and financial investments made to make yourself marketable for a well paying corporate job?

Since when do "college degrees", particularly additional ones, provide you with the skill sets and abilities that you apply in the real world? I always assumed that all college educated, real world experienced professionals learned that's not the case after a year or two after graduation. The degree is merely the foundation, the fundamentals. Do millennials still think that having the degree makes you that person(engineer, geologist, etc.) without anything else? It also astounds me how many people go back after they have been in some industry for a while and get some fluff degree, typically a masters of blahblahblah, and then they come back to work thinking they merit all sorts of promotions when they don't know anything more about their business than before, and sometimes less!

Yes that Tulane MBA is very valuable.....best degree that money can buy- ROTFLMAO!

Chevron does appreciate the advanced degrees. Why wouldn't they? The fact is Chevron is cutting assets and personnel to save costs and keep up the dividend. Chevron was not ahead of the curve (not too surprising) and are now in critical mode. They should have planned better years ago and trimmed unnecessary projects, processes and personnel to avoid the calamity it is having to go through today.

Be like the CIO at chevron and take a quick class at Harvard and claim an MBA from Harvard. I at least put in the 18 months for my Tulane MBA. Chevron LT does not seem to care that I have an advanced degree and know how to do a lot of things they do not. I feel at times they keep you down to do their work and do not give credit where credit is do. I never in many years ever meet a GM at chevron that knew anything about strategy. I laughed when I heard the ETC managers attempt to talk about strategy. Totally not qualified for the GM role. Moving on my market gets better.

Yes @H12pgxk-1ajl, Chevron will provide you with the additional testi---that you have been missing since childbirth, in light of them not being responsible for your incomplete masculinity.

@1qdr, that's what got you canned. I'm afraid that kissing a$$ and brown-nosing at Chevron is as equally important than what you know and the degrees you have. It's that way in most of the corporate world and in the oilfield business. The moron management types love to have their chain pulled and asses tickled. Learn to do it without shame. You'll climb faster and survive longer. Like they say... When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Same here at Chevron.

$5k isn't going to help much with a degree but it might pay for a professional certification or other training that could not be had at CVX for the past few years. Take advantage of it if you can. Why leave $5k on CVX's table?

Yes and of course, they owe you that and you are entitled to that Ivy League Ed. Because just by hiring and employing you for whatever period in your life, that implies that they should be your mommie for life, and should make your career the best that it could be. Simply by giving you the gift of a job for part of your career means they should be responsible for the rest of your life. It is entirely Chevron's fault now if you fail or succeed and they should be held responsible. Because you are just dependent like that and are not in control of your life in the least. Chevron is.

@H12pgxk-1izk $5,000 pays for one semester (12 hrs) at UoH. Still ... why not take advantage of it ?

Many schools offer graduate certificates or maybe you can take a project management or cisco training class.

Make sure to make a copy of the form. Refund is up to $5,000 using the total after the 75%.

Example:

6,000 X .75 = $4,500 still have a balance of $500.00 that you can submit.
