That is the heart of age discrimination. The older you are, the more experience and value you have that can be more important than the sheer additional labor produced by 3 younger employees. The value proposition of a single person's experience can far exceed a multiple of employees in certain areas of expertise. The younger employees however, are more likely to fall in line at the crack of a whip and make "great" managers as they induce fear owing to their lack of experience and the need to hide their insecurity.
7khy - maybe you should have worked on your writing skills. That paragraph was atrocious. Laying off people to cut expenses comes down to how many people you want to lose. The older you are the more likely you earn more. If I was looking at cutting 1 older employee vs 3 younger employees to hit a financial target I'd prefer 1 less employee than three.

BofA has a cavalier approach to knowledge and experience. They somehow think by eliminating the people that have it, it will magically disperse to the remaining people in the group. While the nuts and bolts may be easily passed on, the real capital is the knowledge and know-how but is now lost.
The person laid off from my dept was one of the best on the team, her absence will be noticed when management realizes they kept the youngest and most ignorant to clean things up for the next round of layoffs. Update your resume, you will need it.
Ther has always been a goal about women and people of color. Sadly these people never progress beyond band 4, 4's are your hardest working managers and always have a target on thier back. Mgmt still meets thier goal if the hire someone younger and cheaper

Yes and the one in Oct was retaliatory. They'll pay for that one eventually. The person just did not want to disrupt severance.
