I am grade 7 and base is 120k
Sales Program Manager based in SC
Grade 05 for 4 years now; $100K + $17K in bonuses + $5.5k in stocks + ~5% gross pay as 401(k) match. Standard 2% annual raise
Joined Intel Software in June'15 as a TME intern and became full-time in Feb'16
Grade 03 -> 05: ~15% jump and 2 years
Intern -> Grade 03: ~40% jump and a whole lot of luck
Engineers at freaking Qualcomm at the same level and same years of experience make better than that, gee guys.
From the tech side....MT/Process specialist, grade 55. Almost 4 years. My base is 72k after my 3rd successful focal/insight. 118ish after compressed work week pay + 16% night shift + annual/profit share/factory bonuses + 5% 401k match. Not including what intel "pays" for health insurance. And not including what i could make if I sold my stock 2x a year as I put 10% into employee stock plan. Not effing bad considering I didn't complete my college degree! I'm not complaining! Would 180k a year be better...probably.
Grade 9, seven very successful years, 160k. Had to fight for every dollar though, starting in 2012 at grade 7 and 104k.
Total comp is around 200k but the RSU plan really s---s.
Still would rather live here than make more, but the disparity with the industry is huge.
how much does a grade 3 make?
Focal has changed, EB increases dollars are treated as 3x base pay increase, so you won't see managers boosting EB targets ridiculously anymore. My first year here it was boosted by 85%, and they implemented this change, and it only increased by a similar rate as base pay (higher at promo though).
A few points you guys should consider.
Salary is a function of job title. If you're the right job title, you will make more money than others in your same grade. I had a hot title for a few years and got market adjustment bumps as part of my focal several years. One of those years, i also got a promo and was looking at a 20%+ increase. Even some years when I didn't get a promo, the market adjustment had me at +14%.
The steps in base pay from 3 all the way to 9 are pretty linear. If you ignore the market adjustments, each promo is met with around 7-12% increase in pay, depending on how long I had been in the previous grade (and therefore how high my salary was compared to my peers).
Below grade 7, your EB target is a fixed 1.1% of your base pay. At grade 7+, the EB is decoupled from your salary. Here's where the fun games really start and where it really matters to have a good manager. Managers have a fixed amount of $ they can allocate, but they can allocate those dollars in either EB or base pay. IE, if your pay raise is $5000, they can put a disproportionate amount in your EB relative to base pay. Do the math on that and if he puts all $5k into your EB target, come bonus time those $5k turn into $15k pretty quickly. I had a great manager a couple of years that did this, and my EB grew quite high. At the end of my grade 7 tenure, I had an EB target higher than the several grade 8s I knew...and it wasn't even close.
Time in grade. I'd say that decent times for promos are as follows:
3->5: 2-3 full focal cycles
5->6: 3 full focal cycles
6->7: 3-4 full focal cycles
7->8: 5-6 full focal cycles
8->9: 6-10 full focal cycles
9->10: politics really start to play a part
Anyone can just show up to work and hit gr 7 eventually. It might take time, but just do your work and you'll get there. To get to 8+ takes more than this. You have to seek out opportunities and you have to purposely and deliberately grow your skill set and consequently add more and more value to Intel. You need to network inside and outside the company and ensure that you're key player on highly visible projects. Play your cards right, and you can get your double digit grade level very quickly. Intel is full of highly motivated, highly intelligent PEs that are in their 30s. Seek them out, find out what they do, how they think, and what makes them so valuable to Intel. PEs are selected by committee (of other PEs and high level managers), so it's very rare to find one that 'slipped through the cracks' and is undeserving of the title. None of the PEs want to dilute the title by letting people into the club that don't really belong there.
10.5 years as a 5- 82K 4 exceeds, 6 successful, SL 2-3 Totally screwed- no VSP and at least 2 of my very small team are being hit. I know why I'm here- cheap labor to do the job of 4 under completely incompetent and overpaid managers!!!!! fml
Grade 6. 1 yr experience. Making 108K base. I hv a thesis masters with several papers.
Can you also share your bonus targets, SSL value, and location (to understand geo diff)?
Oregon grade 8, $127k + $5.4k
SSL2 = $20k
5 years @ Intel (4 as grade 7)
54 base 40000
Been at Intel 20+ yrs. G7 for 10 years, base pay is about $104k.
Hired 2013/ MS / grade 7 / 105K
Wow!! No wonder, someone in management wants to move all the jobs to Asia. With G5 salary you can hire 4 mid level engineers. Even accounting productivity loss, still makes big s nose to hire in Asia
G7
120K
20+ years at Intel ...last 3 years, Exceeds, and Successful focals + SSL2 and SSL3, but this year received SSL4 because I make too much money (so I was told) but I didn't get the ERP or VSP email this morning.
What gives? assuming the ISP is coming by the end of the week.
13 years at Intel, first SSL4 because it was "my turn in the rotation," and got hit. Focal was "successful."
Grade 8
base ~$150k
Should get the package tomorrow.
Don't get too hung up on salary - the only time you can negotiate it is when you are hired. Once your are in the system, the HR wonks set the raises. You will pull your hair out if you knew what your peer sitting next to you is making, it might be considerably more or less than you all other factors considered. A couple of years ago I was filling in for my manager while she was on sabbatical and was sent a spreadsheet of salaries of about 40 people levels 5 to 8 in my overall group by another manager and I knew almost everyone on that list personally - salaries where all over the map, no consistency that I could see - some people doing the same job at the same level at approx the same time in grade and were paid 10-12k more OR less than their team mates......I did notice that level 6-8's that came in from other companies like Level One were started much higher than than the same level that had been at intel for the same or more years - I noticed that because I saw what they making when they came onboard. At that time, my level 8 base was 108K with 16 years and a masters and the guys from level one with 5-10 years Level 8's where getting 117-118K without masters. I got 2 exceeds in a row and got a 3.5% bump! and been getting 2.2 and 2.8 and 3.8% (new manager) raises since. Now making Level 8 123K after 20 years No rhyme or reason, just how well your manager presents you at focal and what the economy is doing. The extra bonus and stock does help out. I can see how the system works and it favors new hires with some experience, so the moral is negotiate, negotiate, and negotiate when you get hired. Intel does not negotiate with worker bees for focal raises - only CIO's BK got 10% base increase and 45% stock bump for 2015. I am in New Mexico all the other sites pay more due to cost of living
G8/125K. Was in G7 for 3 years before being promoted.
grade 8, 126k. 2 years
grade 8/165K dept had too many managers churned around. Intel sucks. All in HR/Legal/ Govt Affairs/ CSP etc must be fired. They do nothing and are parasites
G7
121K
6years ...all successful + SSL3, last reviw SSL4
Grade 8 in Santa Clara. Joined earlier this year in February from nvidia.
148k base + 8% Geo = about 159k
Your manager is allowed to show you pay quartiles for your region/group from Gr3 to your grade level+1 (so you can see what a promo looks like). But let me tell you, it's not worth waiting for a promo on this Intel Titanic - she's going down. It's just a matter of time. Grab a VSP lifeboat before they're gone.
Quite the variation in salary by grade.
I think people with an MS are hired in at 5. RCG without MS at grade 3. PhD would be 6+
Wow, Intel doesn't pay much. Software people are getting 150k nowadays.... No grades either.
Do masters come in at gr6? How long does it take to GR 7 or 8? Do they come with huge pay raises?
Grade 6 with total of 5 years exp... and $122K base salary
@lsm Go back to your Mac job lol.
Grade 5, 87K
Follow on question, just because I've always been curious. How does APB multiplier change at higher grades. My understanding is it's basically fixed at 1x for everyone below grade 7. What does it go to at 7,8 ,9?
Grade 9 150k in sc, add 3% to it ;)
people at the SC site in CA get a 5% pay differential, the rest of the salaries are comparable to the entire state of CA for each job description.
Your location makes a huge difference to your base. In general people in CA makes 15% more than other places.
@H5w9Q7p-hul, new hires make more money. I was grade 8 and 17 yrs experience before ISP of last year and was only taking in 120K. Bastards.
@OP how long have you been in G7?
Sucked into the Borg last year. Grade 23 at $45,000,000. No prior experience, no diplomas, just my Millennial charisma!
Jesus christ, I'm gettin' screwed! No wonder they're not in a hurry to shove me out the door!
I think you meant to ask for data from those impacted...or for ppl to at least state if their impacted no?
Hired into Intel at grade 6 and been here for two years. Currently at 95k base. 5 years previous experience before joining.
